Senate boosts wilderness protection across US

Full story: news.yahoo.com

In a rare Sunday session, the Senate advanced legislation that would set aside more than 2 million acres in nine states as wilderness. Majority Democrats assembled more than enough votes to overcome GOP stalling tactics in an early showdown for the new Congress.

ok - Congress - explain to me why we are doing studies for additions to national park systems in St Croix and Puerto Rico when this country is facing a massive failing?

And why does St Augustine get $3,000,000 over 6 years to help them plan and setup their 450th anniversary celebration?

Why are we creating a Preserve America Society which duplicates the ideas of the Historical Preservation Society, which will only add more unelected people appointed to these commissions, creating regulations and such that govern how we can manage our own property?

There's a great number of "Heritage Areas" being designated as well, turned over to "Non Profit Associations", and those associations are receiving anywhere from $2 million to $20 million to manage the "Heritage Areas". How can you justify this during these tough economic times?

Change is coming!

Fast work, US Senate.

And Coburn is complaining about "preventing oil and gas developement" when productive rigs are being shut down all over the US? He is out of touch as usual.

Someone tell Coburn "Drill, baby, Drill" was just a stupid campaign gimmick.

Yeah - they were real fast to drop all pretenses of bi-partisanship, transparent operations, and keeping the pork projects at bay.

Way to go Congress - you proved me right!

Yeah ... anytime someone disagrees with a liberal he is an extremist. Get out the rotten tomatoes and eggs, and chase them out!
What do you expect from democrats? A new definition of "is" and their own definition of bi-partisan ... agree with us or get out ... you racist, homophobe neocons!... and don't come back until you can be bi-partisan.

Here we see how fast Washington can work at limiting our resources to combat our energy supply. How about this for a thought ....New Orleans has not been rebuilt after all these years. I'm sorry to report that as monumental a job it is, it still is in shambles.

What galls the heck out of me is that when the hurricane hit, the whole Democrat plan of social nets was on full display as an inept, paper driven, red tape system. It was on display and not one Conservative called it to attention. Instead, it was deemed a charitable cause and the money began flowing toward it.

Well behold the golden cause, we find out a lot of donations didn't go toward the intended results. The Clinton / Bush chapter is only one example I will bring up as a flagarant abuse of charitable misappropriations. When we find out that donations were added as donations to the Clinton Library !!! WTH ???

We have yet to hear much outcry on this issue either. What I am trying to point out is the silence of Conservates against these inept social nets that have been shown time and time again to not work as intended, are a genuine waste of resources that can be utilized for actual progress and should be called out as such.

It's time to call a spade a spade, Republican or Democrat or Independant ... Stop the waste!! Let's see results before any more taxes are introduced toward any program deemed of worthy the tear jerking, pity inducing, cry me a river "do good" cause.

Maybe you should live in a dump if you don't know the value of wilderness. Wonder how many signing statements/executive directives already make much of this a mute point. Theoretically alot of these places could be ruined before the legislation takes effect.

let's see - 57 democrats, 2 independent, and 10 republicans.

Those republicans that voted for it had clauses in their so they could get a piece of the pie, so I would say they had something to gain.

Not exactly bi partisan huh

57 senators, 2 indys, and 10 republicans make up the 69 that voted for

with 14 against, that leaves 17 not voting or abstaining.

considering this vote was done on the fly and on a Sunday - I am thinking Reid played some head games to keep opposition to a minimum and get his Land Pork Package passed before the "No Pork Allowed" legislation got approved.

Funny, before 2006 if a bill passed 69 - 14, it was blame the Republicans, even-though there was not 69 Republican Senators.

Now it is bi-partisan.

Read a newspaper, zippy.

The White House and Congress were under republican control when Katrina hit. The failures that followed were theirs and theirs alone. Blaming the dems just makes you look ignorant and petty. Probably why your party lost, BIG, on 11/4. Americans know full well who screwed up in Nola, Iraq, and the economy and it's the SOB'S in the GOP.

Dufus .... maybe you should read real facts and not a newspaper. Especially, do NOT believe everything you see on TV.

If you recall, dufus, A Democratic Mayor of New Orleans didn't heed the warnings and alert the citizens of his city, didn't provide transportation out of the city, and went into hiding at a hotel in a secured area of the city.

A bumbling , ignorant, unprepared Democratic Governor of Louisiana did'nt know what to do in case of an emergency such as a simple little hurricane, because it wasn't spelled out for her.

Because the Democrats had "control" of the city, and state for decades and never thought of planning for a possible disaster. Instead, all the $$$$$ provided for the upkeep, upgrades of the levies was spent for frivilous things like campaign BBQ's and campaign funds and storeage of $$$ in freezers.

Heck, the Governor couldn't even figure out that she alone had to provide the National Guard in her state to provide security for the devastated region.

Instead, Washington (Bush) had to bring in the Coast Guards to fish out the survivors from rooftops and the Navy to provide offshore shelter.

The only thing you got right was Washington was in control by Republicans, but you failed to realize that it was also the Republicans that bailed out the dufus Decocrats. Remember your facts before you spew such nonsense .... dufus.

This is why your boy McCain lost. Like children caught with their hand in the cookie jar, the first thing they say is "I didn't do it.

America heard the deflections of the GOP and on Nov. 4, 2008, and they told them exactly how they feel about them. 70 million resounding "Your FIRED!"

The election was over two months ago, yet here you are whining, blaming and finger pointing. The legacy of your President Bush is one of failure and ineptitude. Blame a Governor. Blame a Mayor. The history books will blame the guilty party. The Republicans led by Bush and Dick.

disenchanted taxpayer - you will just have to ignore x0x0x.

This person is high on the crack, and under the delusion that now Obama is in the office, that he will make all of us whites pay for being white.

This person also believes that Obama is going to start giving all his supporters wads of cash to make their lives easier.

Fanatics like x0x0x cannot see the truth of what's coming, even though Obama has backed off several campaign promises already, has re-constitituted the Clinton Administration, and had put a hawkish foreign policy team together.

These fanatics ignore the fact that Obama has called for a significant increase of troops to Afghanistan, which will flow into Pakistan as well. With the plans he has for changes in the military, there won't be enough military left of a voluntary nature, so we will see the draft returned again to meet that need.

As for x0x0x, I'm not crying you pathetic turd, I am exuberant (get a dictionary). I believe Obama's election and what he will do to foul up this country even further, will do a great deal to help the Patriot movement and the Independent Parties out there.

Time will tell, and I don't think it will be 6 months when we start seeing things turning to crap.
