Wilderness resort contract up for grabs in Stehekin
Anyone interested in running a wilderness resort needs to look no further than Washington's rugged North Cascades, where the National Park Service is seeking bidders to manage a 21-room lodge, restaurant and general store in the remote community of Stehekin.

For decades, the National Park Service (NPS) has managed the Stehekin River in order to protect the public from the DEVELOPER MINDSET such as that of Doc Hastings. The Hanford Reach Monument is an excellent example of a wonderful resource that was preserved for the American public over the protests of Doc Hastings. I support the preservation of Pacific Northwest rivers, including the Stehekin River in North Cascades National Park.
The NPS is a steward of public interest that served to mitigate damage from floods to private property that has/had inappropriate development by owners who have showed no respect or consideration for the flood plains of the Stehekin River.
In this Country, we do not NEED a road to everywhere and the upper Stehekin Valley is one of those areas. We managed to cut one of the Nation's great wilderness areas in half with the North Cascade Highway for at short-term convenience and economic benefits a the expense of a resource lost to the rapid growing numbers of those seeking the outdoor experience - beyond their automobile. The exponential increase of use to these areas by outdoor enthusiasts needs to be respected. The stock of wilderness areas is decreasing disproportionately to the demands of a spiraling population in the State of Washington. "Do the Math!".
Sen. Linda Evans Parlette, R-Wenatchee professes, "The legislation is a good thing for anybody who wants to enter the wilderness but who does not have the time to hike 20 miles in a day." For Senator Evans Parlette and those who desire an automobile tour of wilderness, or desire to live in such an area, many already exist in Washington and other areas of the Nation...use them rather than spoiling the resources of the next generation with an insatiable lust for mindless accessibility.
