Dog walking, including off-lease under control walking, should continue to be allowed when the GGNRA takes over management of the Rancho Corral de Terra ranch.
Dog walking is not a threat to the park, its visitors, or its wild life. Horseback riding and off road bike riding do more damage to the area then dog walking by rutting the trails and scaring wild life. The reasons to deny dog walking in the area has more to do with an emotional judgement against the activity then science. Denying people the pleasure of walking in the area with there pet companions is not justified. Creating and improving the trails by the GGNRA and increasing visitation to the area by adding parking sites and easier access will have signicantly more negative impact to the area and wild life then dog walking ever could. The irony of disallowing dog walking in the area, is that dog walkers are one of the largest supporters and contributers for maintaining and increasing open spaces. Mike Stevens |
