East Asheville Bear Attack
#1 Jun 17, 2010
I have an idea.. for Mike Carraway! Step down! We've had 3 bear attacks in the last week, you fool! Don't tell us it's because they left cat food on the back porch. Start killing these bears, or taking a pellet gun, tranquilizing them and taking them FAR away! You do NOT need to be in such a public service job! You're putting our lives in danger by making light of this yet again! Who hires these people for the Wild life jobs anyway? Charles Manson?
Bears will eat anything. Go ask folks out in Montreat just how rampant they are there. Sounds like the whole town of Asheville is becoming a new Montreat. Why on earth is it illegal to kill a bear if the thing can kill you? Oh, you are supposed to let it kill off your dog or cat, and just sit there complacently?
There was a bear running down on Sweeten Creek a while back, that's very close to the tourist area, Biltmore Village!
How great for Asheville for people to know they cannot even get back into their cars safely! You people are stupid! No one else in the world would keep letting dangerous wildlife come so close to humans and do nothing about it. No one!

leave your pellet gun, your 9mm, your 45 at home, these will just piss off an 800 pound black bear, 44, you might have a chance, 454 casul is recommended. also 308, 30-06 some of the larger bears have 4" skulls

I'm moving near ashville soon, have a bernese mountain dog that's my best friend.. If a bear even sniffs my property I'm sending him back to hell. No questions asked, people forget bears need a reminder once in a while to keep away from populations, and vsf versa.

If you think a dog, any kind of dog, can beat a bear in a fight, you are even dumber than the garden variety yankee we have to contend with here.

First thing you need to do is learn how to spell "Asheville."
Second thing you need do is not talk with such idiotic swagger.
Third thing you need know is in any fight between one bear and one dog, the bear won't get a scratch but the dog will be torn to shreds. I have seen the gutting a bear can do just with his claws to a dog. Bear hunters never hunt with just one dog unless they want the dog dead. Most hunters go into the woods with 5 or 6, and the bear is either run up a tree or held at bay until the hunters come with their guns. Yes, it's a blood sport, and quite disgusting.
Fourth thing you need learn is that the bear population now shares space with us here in the city. We see bears in Asheville quite frequently now, and I just grabbed my dogs up and put them in the car when they ran up on a bear sitting on his haunches enjoying the evening's balmy air, within a mile of downtown Asheville. He was at the edge of the woods, so after he decided he didn't particularly care for the company and 3 little dogs yapping at him, he just got up and ambled back into the woods again.
