Study: Smokies closure costs $33 million in lost spending so far

A study conducted by an economist at Western Carolina University estimates that the first 10 days of the government shutdown has cost more than $33 million in lost visitor spending in the 18 Tennessee and North Carolina counties within 60 miles of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Why bother? With the stupid car shows blocking all the traffic in and arround town , no one can enjoy the shops and stores. Wake up and look at the confusion they are causing. Our family will never spend another penny in this miserable mess. Hope you enjoy sitting out among these clunkers.....

Though I understand they are "national" parks, why did the White House (Obama) shut down this sort of thing instead of something that was more "government" if they wanted to really hurt something,....or someone, like Americans?

not have any idea what you are talking about. The teabaggers aided by Boehner shut down the government and would not allow a vote on the continuing resolution for 16 days. The Park Service is a part of the government. Remember that the next time one of them asks you for a vote. The only discretion the Park Service had was to do things to protect life and property on the 86 million acres and 400+ properties they manage on behalf of the people.
