I hope the Sanctuary City councils of Santa Cruz and Watsonville read this article and the related posts.
It matters not to them. They are fully aware and continue to be a sanctuary. This is probably due to the disproportionate number of illegals and anchor babies residing in both cities. What I don't understand is why the cities get away with committing a crime. Per Federal Immigration and Nationality Act, Section 8 USC 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv)(b)(iii):

"Any person who ... encourages or induces an alien to ... reside ... knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such ... residence is ... in violation of law, shall be punished as provided ... for each alien in respect to whom such a violation occurs ... fined under title 18 ... imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both."

Section 274 felonies under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, INA 274A(a)(1)(A):

A person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he:

* assists an alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him or her to obtain employment, or

* encourages that alien to remain in the U.S. by referring him or her to an employer or by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or

* knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions."

What say you, legal citizens of Watsonville and Santa Cruz?

After paying for a boat, train, plane ticket to cross the border, waiting in line for years, paying the fees and undergoing the rigorous requirements to meet elibibility for citizenship, somehow I think that these proud new US citizens have some opinion about others, who 'barge over the borders' and remain here illegally with no plans or desire to become citizens.

Everyone should come to the US. if americans cant compete, well, that's capitalism. They can go work the fields and mexicans wouldnt have to be invited so much as guest workers.
Many if not most of America's problems can be solved by allowing free and open competition once again.

For instance - considering that professional music has been a major economic engine in the African American Community since the 1880s, why would affirmative action for black musicians over white musicians ever be justified?

Even when we consider the deliberately ill effects of Prohibition and the Jim Crow Laws, it wasn't as if white American musicians had anything to do with passing those laws.

In fact - including Scott Joplin's troubling relationship with his publisher John Stark - White American Musicians were always major positive contributors to Ragtime and Jazz.

On the other hand, the "Dwightists" - the "symphonic society" followers of John Sullivan Dwight - have always supported bigotry in music.

In fact, Dwight even denigrated Mozart himself as, "That 'Popist' composer of Italian Opera".

So, if Mozart wasn't "White Enough" for the original Dwightists back in old Boston, it's no wonder that California's new fashioned "official government arts" dwightists think that true state champ Bay Concert Arts is "too white" to play in Watsonville.

Because, as John Sullivan Dwight said, the American People are "Too much of a 'dalmation society' to be allowed to choose their own music".

I love this story! This is the greatest country on earth. We WELCOME immigrants. We invite their full participation and inclusion in all things we hold dear, assimilating into our wonderful culture and the freedoms we hold so dear. THIS is the picture of America that liberals try so hard to quash. Thank you, Sentinel, for running this important story and for providing it the prominence it deserves. Welcome, and congratulations to these new US citizens!
Who said that this is the image that liberals try to squash? Of course not! Liberals are trying to get immigrants who live in the U.S., the right to become citizens.

I wouldn't call the U.S. the greatest country on earth. Without a social safety net like in Canada, Western Europe and Nordic Countries, the U.S.A. is hardly the greatest country in the world.

By the way, I'm speaking as a true American citizen--born in the U.S.

There are a lot of native-born Americans that speak foreign languages. And there are a lot of Americans living abroad that speak English in their homes. Just saying.(And when you get "naturalized"... you are a "real" American, with all the rights and opportunities available to every other citizen.)
Actually no. A naturalised citizen of the U.S. is never allowed to become a United States president, so oddly enough they do NOT have the same rights as citizens of the U.S. who were born in the U.S. It is actually written into the constitution what the requirements of being President of U.S. is, and one of them is to be a born U.S. citizen, not naturalised one.

Right on folks for doing it "The right way" Now if only are gov woul'd wake up and MAKE it still illegal to come here The wrong way , I have seen MANY us citizens looking for work BUT can not find it , BUT there are sooo many illegal people working , huh ....shame on you employers for letting this happen ...plus alot of jobs these REQUIRE that you speak English and spanish , but they give out FREE learn how to speak english classesBUT if you wanna learn spanish YOU PAY....WHAT ?WHY? If we enforced people to speak ENGLISH then we woul'd NOT spend Thousands , millions of OUR taxes to print Spanish / english literature..I am so disgusted with these polices..Most of our gang problems come from Mexicans..you say their americans, BUT their parents JUMPED the border then had them here so that makes them Americans, they say they come here for a better life then WHY are they trying to turn our country into "little MEXICO" ...go take a look at EAST ALISAL in Salinas , look around people , do you see what I see !!!

Burning a flag in solidarity with the Honduran people on July 4th makes more sense to me than burning a flag as a "celebration of the First Amendment." Divorcing flagburning from its visceral ("Yanqui, go home!") content is a way of stripping the action of its force. Using constitutional arguments and hailing the First Amendment seems to me to be an attempt to dampen reactionary kneejerk jingoism ("see, it's not so threatening"). But the point of a flag-burning in countries occupied by the U.S. or profiteering international corporations closely tied to U.S. guns and money IS to threaten ("get the fuck out!").

Burn a flag on the 4th in front of the Honduran counselate in protest of continued U.S. support
for the Honduran coup-sters. That's a real way of using the First Amendment in more than an empty
symbolic way. Divorcing U.S. flagburning from what it traditionally means throughout Latin America
is a way of concealing or ignoring important history. Millions are being ripped off by the maquiladoras (exported NAFTA industries using cheap labor), especially in Honduras.

I believe you are incorrect. You cannot petition for your fiance, as that person is not a legal relative under the law.

Liberals are trying to get ILLEGAL immigrants, who broke our laws by sneaking across our porous border to squat in the U.S., to avail themselves of the freebies to which they are not entitled. They should be required to pack themselves and their spawn up and return from whence they came and apply the proper way. Anything less is just making a mockery of today's ceremony. We have an immigration quota for a reason. The U.S. can only handle so many newcomers at a time.

Well they are all part of the tax rolls etc. now...I'm certain they'll take the "right" path on immigration issues...they had to fight for it. I have a friend that went through the process...it took years and an insane amount of hoop jumping...why do you think so many millions try to cheat?...and we should just give it to "them"...I don't think so!

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Gemini

You're in a very erratic mood today, making you restless, edgy and nervy. It may be almost impossible to settle to anything for long, because, as Mercury slows, you soon lose interest. If life becomes boring you'll want to liven it up in some way and it's likely you'll choose the most disruptive and controversial option you can think of, even though you know this will cause trouble.
