Saratoga woman takes on litter problem

Andrea McGhee has filled 13 bags with trash since she started picking up the litter along Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road.

Your desire to help is admirable, but why do you need Andrea McGhee's help? If you want to get involved, why not just do what she did -- get a few trash bags and start picking up the litter. Or am I missing something?

It's a huge problem in our community too here in central CT. Fast food cups and bottles everywhere. Litter collecting in the catch basins on the corners of the main arteries. People carelessly tossing "bags" of stuff out their car windows. It's a new paradigm it seems here in this country and I don't get it. Back in the 60"s Lady Bird Johnson took on the Problem on a National Level with Television spots emphasizing "Keep America Beautiful" and "Please, Please don't be a Litter Bug cuz every Litter Bug hurts" was another commercial jingle that was constantly broadcast on national Television until it became part of our collective conscience..and as a young person back then, it made an impression, and too, we had McDonalds, Burger King and there wasn't the litter. It not only needs to be the responsiblity of the city/town citizens, but the cities and the Federal Government again perhaps with the next First Lady/Man making a pitch, and there's little Bindy Erwin who would make a great Spokesperson for this issue reaching and appealing too a very wide audience.

I agree with you. You go! Do what works for you. I am encouraged that you want to help (in anyway you desire). Tell me how it's going and be safe.

Awesome....that would be terrific. That's a massive area and I a lot of people cruz up there and dump. So sad. I actually proposed that citizens pick an area and keep it clean (as long as they desire). Can we publish your name and contact info in case others want to help you?
