People from Belmont, California - do you remember a criminal named Jon Dunkle?

Dunkle was a serial killer who committed several murders in Belmont in the early 80s, and while looking into him, I began thinking that he appears to be rather little known in the area. Judging by the mentions online, few seem to be aware of what happened at the time in such places as Waterdog Lake, Edgewood Park or Ralston School, for example.
Now, I've been wondering if that is really the case, and if so, has he been excised on purpose, or simply forgotten? I could only rely on second-hand, online sources, but it's made me curious.
Have you heard of him, were you aware of that dark part of the region's history?
Or perhaps you actually were there when this was happening, or even met him back in the day and could say something about him? He seems to have been a rather noticeable, odd standout, who moved about Belmont and the nearby towns quite freely.

There was a book written about it. "The Boy Next Door" I bought my copy from Amazon.
