Maybe you should get the whole story on this before trying to end this officers career for doing "the right thing." How about asking these questions..What was the thug doing for the officers to even stop him? If the "other" officer felt Esqueda was doing something wrong why didn't he stop him in the middle of it instead of letting it get this far? What is in Esqueda's background? Did you see the article about Esqueda saving a family from a burning building? Why doesn't any of this come into play? Stop and think for a minute before "judging" an INNCOENT OFFICER!!!!

Absolutely agree with you, it is a shame that we have come to a place in society where an officer can not trust in the department. What shame, shame on them and shame on the officer and shame on the system who protects the criminal and punishes the protector.........

They will never have a true police department they are to afraid to serve and protect all they do is protect there own ass never mind the officer who risk their lives on a daily basis forget them and the impact on the family and shame on the press for leaving out his history and not printing all the merits this officer has earned..... Damn the department and the officer who ratted him out.

What a shame that the San Mateo Police Department turns their backs on their own officers. Who can ever trust the officer who reported Officer Esqueda can you really trust him ever.... who wants to patrol with him who will ever want to work with him.. who will ever want to...... Let the officer continue to do his job obviously he was hired for a reason obviously he had a positive work history what about his merit awards and his recognition for saving peoples lives. He is our hero and we need to protect him for who he is and not impose regulations that can cost them their lives......... While they are saving ours.......

Sgt Sloane should be more embarassed at the way her department dealt with the situation. The motive of the officer should be questioned.

Hear -- Yes, Hear -- The Sound Of Heroism: Two LBPD North Division Patrol Officers On Graveyard Shift Defy Smoke & Fire, Put Themselves In Peril...And Save A Large Family
We post rarely heard police radio communications
(January 27, 2003)-- While most of LB slept on January 17, 2003, two LBPD officers put themselves in peril to save people they'd never met.
LBReport.com posts below audio files that let you hear -- yes, hear -- what happened. Officer Otto:...Notify Fire we have a structure fire...
Dispatcher: 10-4 [Message received/OK]
Officer Esqueda: Hey Vince, I need help in evacuating this house.
Dispatcher: SAM 15 copy?[Dispatcher asks sergeant unit ("SAM"), did you hear that?]...
Sergeant: Negative, where are they at?
Officer Esqueda: The house is on fire. I'm gonna, I gotta evacuate this family...
Sergeant: 10-4. En route. Send them a unit Code 3 [Send another police car with lights and sirens]
Officer Esqueda: I'm going to need more than that, Sarge. I've got a back house back here that's on fire!
Dispatcher: 10-4, units to respond [asking other field units to respond]
Dispatcher: 3Adam51 and 53, I'll put you on the call.[Dispatcher assigns two other units to the scene.]
Officer Esqueda:[Coughing, menacing dog barking] Vince, I'm at the house, evacuating the back.
Officer Otto: 10-4, I've got the front house evacuated.
Dispatcher: 10-4.
Officer Esqueda: I don't know if there's someone in the garage Vince I really can't get inside.
[Crosstalk, several transmissions coincide]: Guys...Fire is en route to that...[crosstalk]...getting pretty [inaudible][Following is Officer Otto speaking to Esqueda] now I want you to get out of there, man...
Officer Esqueda:...Find me a spot to get out. I can't get out!
Dispatcher: We're advising Fire of the last.[We're telling LBFD what was just said.]
Officer Esqueda:[inaudible]...We got everybody out of the rear house.
Dispatcher: Is the unit also out of the rear that couldn't get out?
Officer Gentry [has arrived on scene, assists Officer Esqueda in getting out]: 10-4! We're on the west side. We gotta crawl over some fences, but we're OK.
Dispatcher: 10-4.

Just two weeks ago I incountered myself being wrongfully searched and assaulted by Colma Police Department's Sargent and another male officer who had no propable cause to even put hands on me. We need to stop police corruption. And stop the bad cops that make the police force look so bad.

So apparently the California Penal Code exists everywhere else in the state except for Long Beach. Because it is okay for anyone, especially the police, to pull out their guns to illicit information. I guess the brandishing and assault with a deadly weapon laws do not exist there. It's not like he was working a case where a little girl was kidnapped and held hostage somewhere, he was trying to find a stolen car(a property crime). Do you know how many cars are stolen every day!

Dear Concerned from Indio,
Police officers do not use their guns to enforce the law. They are allowed to carry them to protect themselves from the idiots in the world who try to kill them while in the normal course of their duties. They can only be used as a last resort when in fear for his or her own life and for the life of another. Or were you asleep when they taught that at the police academy.

Big deal. You see the police drive around in police cars and occasionally they will be closer to a fire than the fire department that is responding. And since they are so close, they can rush in and get people to come out. There are plenty of cops with similar stories. What else do you got. What about the stuff in his background that wasn't disclosed by the LBPD. And by the way "heros" is actually spelled h-e-r-o-e-s.

I tell you what...I have been arrested before and guess what?!?!? I GAVE THEM reason to arrest me and hold me. I am now a better person for the men who arrested me who saved me from myself. i think its crappy that this man is being accused of doing his job...remember it says being accused of not we have proof. I think its also a shame that more people arent standing behind him.
