I work for the City of Emeryville and know for a fact that Leslie is psychotic, manipulative, and was just looking for her break to play the race card and cash in. She didn't get promoted because her lack of education and her personality disorder of being a total nutjob. She's lucky to have lasted 27 years at a job. In the corporate world, she would've been canned years ago!

She lured in several other Black employees to strengthen her frivilous lawsuit and because of shoddy management who didn't have the balls to stand up to her stupid games, the City has to shell out millions of dollars to a lying psycho who still shows up at City Hall when she should be banned from the building!

This article would have been more informative had the journalist interviewed people who've worked with Leslie and weren't filing lawsuits. I agree that what the City did to Craig Chandler was out of line. There's a total lack of management and disfunction that's evident in many city governments, and it's the residents who pay the most for the screw-ups that lead to less money for city programs!

I worked at the city of Emeryville for a long time and I experienced discrimination too. Just like Leslie and others, there were unqualified people hired for outrageous sums of money to do the jobs that I did, which were taken away from me to create these positions. First they started the salaries below mine, then reclassified those people and gave them raises above my salary. There were also sexist remarks by a Department Head that were ignored when I complained. I knew Leslie and she was one tough cookie. She may have been hard to get along with in some areas, but she knew her stuff. The white woman who was hired in her department came in at one salary in an 8 hour per day position, which should have been below Leslie's salary at a 7 hour per day position, but she never worked 8 hours. They hired tokens in HR to help with the discrimination, and even a consultant that acted like she was concerned, quoted scriptures, but ended up writing lies about several people of color. In the long run, Leslie deserved the money and the city should wake up to the facts and listen when there are complaints.

Discrimination will never end as long as those who practice it go unpunished. For those caucasian aericans who choose to live in a shell of ignorance, there is help out there for you. But first you have to admit that you have the illness in order for the Psychiatrist to adequately treat you.

With all the blatant evidence of discrimination in america, why is it so hard for white americans to see the obvious. The good thing about this case is that it wasn't down here in South Florida. Proving discrimination down here, is like what it took to convict byron de la beckworth for the murder of Medger Evers.

I had a car sales manager accuse my of not trying to locate a customer whose deposit check was lost by the finance officer. He told me because the customer was African American and that I was African American that I wasn't trying to find her. He also said that all African Americans are alike and that we all had to know each other. I was threatende with losing my job behind this.

The issue was that the dealership did what is called a straw purchase. Which simply means we used another relative of the buyers credit to purchase the vehicle. Hers was good, but not strong enough to cover the pay-off on her existing car that would be added to the purchase price of the new vehicle.

This transaction was carried out in the finance office, so the documents I received after the sell only contain her Grandmothers information. Which was why it was so hard to relocate the woman to get a replacement check from her. The EEOC was useless down here, even though I had two sales associates who witness the entire conversation.

So coodles on the victory and I hope to see many more, until this trend of discrimination dies out completely.

I guess governments are known for having spineless managers, managers who are opportunists, who care mainly or only about themselves and that pension that awaits them upon retirement. They don't generally care about the peoople they are hired to serve or about their employees, many of whom learn to play the same game - do as little as possible at work, stay on the job long enough to retire or sue. Suing is probably more lucrative.

People need to demand a trimming of government employee staff size every few years and a full, forensic, honest accounting of the books yearly.

There are plenty of racists who are not Caucasian. I have met lots and lots of Negro racists. They hate whites, think all whites are horrible, and think everything is racial, which it is not. We will never have good race relations until everyone of all colors stops looking at color and looks at performance only. Yeah, right. That'll be the day. It will never happen.

Sandy they hate white people for good reason. Look at what white people have done to African Americans and for the most part have gone unpunished. Look at the criminal injustice system and how disproportionately Blacks are imprisoned. Look at how DNA testing is releasing numerous African Americans who have endured long prison terms for crimes that they did not commit.

In Florida an all whit ejury refused to even consider lesser charges in the video taped murder of a fourteen year old Black child in the custody of a juvinlie detention center. His crime "Taking his grandmothers car for a joyride" and his punishment was a brutal death that went unpunished. Look at the fact that it took over thirty years to convict byron de la beckworth for the muder of Medger Evers. He shot this man in the back in front of his home while his family was inside.

Edgar Ray "Preacher" Killen is an American former Ku Klux Klan organizer who conspired to kill several civil rights activists in 1964
He was found guilty of three counts of manslaughter on June 21, 2005, the forty-first anniversary of the crime.

You are right about one thing change is going to be a long time coming. But accountability for ones actions must lead the way. Racist and Sexual Bias will not go away as long as the perpetrators go free and ameriKKKa refuses to admit that it exist. Denial is not the answer and neither is turning a blind eye to the issue.

Sandy, First of all, I am not a negro, so why don't you get an education or stop showing your ignorance.

I worked at that city for a long time, and other than the upper management who hired unqualified white consultants at more than $50 an hour who were doing clerical jobs, the rest of the staff were dedicated in getting the job done right REGARDLESS OF COLOR. However, the managers had a white intern and another white woman in the building department getting paid a lot of money doing the tasks that were taken away from the black women who had been doing those jobs for years. As, usual, you and others, including some council members, will never understand, but maybe a couple more awards of millions of dollars in settlements may make you stop and take off those blinders. This is the largest settlement around. Tokens were hired in personnel, other managers were punished if they didn't keep the black staff under their thumbs. I hope the taxpayers are sitting up and taking notes of the ones they elected who still put their blinders on everyday and costing them money that could be put to a lot better use than paying out for keeping discrimination alive and well in Emeryville.
