Palo Alto sits on a two legged stool. One leg is conservation, always a virtue. The second leg is renewable energy, a questionable but popular goal. The missing leg is, as always, economic. Unless all those green customers agree to turn out their lights when the sun don't shine and the wind don't blow, somewhere there sits idle but still costing money a generator plant waiting to take up the load. The peaking power these plants sell is usually much more expensive than base load power.
Even with three legs, of course, the stool would have nothing to stand on but the unsupportable theory that people have caused the minute warming demonstrable and that people can make a difference in a natural cycle.
I don't think Ms. Pelosi will be happy to hear from me. I am sorry that the utility department has continued down the folly road instead of heading toward lower cost and enhanced availability and flexible demand control.

Walter,

It's even worse than that. Look at the ICLEI commitment ( http://www.cityofpaloalto.org/cityagenda/publ... )

It speaks of future (unspecified) actions and implmentations to reduce greenhouse gases. It is paving the way for massive government controls on all of us in PA.

It is amazing how gullible PA citizens are! I heard Mayor Kleinberg say that 'Stanford supports the global warming crisis theory'(or words to that effect). Wow! Stanford! Who at Stanford? Did the Mayor ask for any critical thinking from other universities? From NASA?

Mass hysteria is alive and well in PA. It reminds me of the Paul Ehrlich hysteria in the 70s.

A recent UN report attributes a substantial amount of greenhouse gas emission to cows' wind and manure.

So, global warming really is BS.

I don't know if we still have cows up on the hill by the dish antenna, but I'm sure the BS coming from the council chambers makes up for Palo Alto's share.
