I just don't get the sloppiness of some Sentinel writers. Squires had the ability to review all of the original stories of the SC murders. The Ohta's were targeted, Kemper's mother and her friend were targeted, and at least five of Mullin's victims knew their killer and were targeted in his madness. Mullin did not select all his victims at ramdom.
Thank you! It was Tara, not Taura! Jennifer Squires, if I were your boss I would FIRE you! If you can't get the story straight, don't write it. I deliver the Sentinel along with other papers and if I can get my delivery correct most of the time, you should be able to write the story correctly! I love my customers and you should love you're JOB enough to get it right!! You have no excuse to forget the Cadwallader family, because I emailed you months ago. Get it right! I am also a Surviving DAUGHTER!

Thank you....

The difference is that Spector and OJ live in Beverly Hills and don't come to Santa Cruz to indulge in our transient outreach program. The fact is that there are murders every year committed by Santa Cruz transients including one notable murder at New Brighton campground during that deranged liberal experiment. My point is that Santa Cruz should not be catering to out of town transients. We simply do not have the resources and end up diluting our homeless service in our attempt to be everything to every homeless and transient. An Ohta like murder will be committed by a transient in Santa Cruz again, the only question is when.
Frazier wasn't an out of town transient and I am unfamiliar with these annual murders by transients you refer to. Are you just making stuff up?

You know you need to go spend some alone time with your Rush Limbaugh doll. I don't know if you read but this guy was employed, Kemper was a local. Can't say I met Mullin [?] Have met David Carpenter, Terry Childs, and Royal Kenneth Hayes. Just to name a few. None of these people are one of Becky's transients. I think that if you were a little more educated you might have a conversation.

I can think of a couple of cases between San Mateo and Santa Cruz but it was not involving civilians. This guy is just had a Limbaugh fix and is rushing.

The Kemper murders haunted the kids of Seacliff big time! Those murders were the "ghost stories" we told growing up, which is kinda of sad if you think about it.
Santa Cruz was full speed freaks and burned out druggies while I was growing up in here in the 70s... too bad it's sinking back to those days.

Unfortunately, you cannot expect Squires to get it right. Until they invent FactCheck software, you will get this kinda stuff from her. Sorry you were overlooked in the article. Searching for the truth and accuracy will take you elsewhere than the Senile.

No it shouldn't. Just like a candle is lighted, not lit. It's weird, but true. Look things you before you criticize.

We frequently forget that even the most heinous of murduers have families, even children, as well. Even monsters can come from loving families. No public outcry of public support to get the through their hard times. My heart goes out to ALL pained by Frasiers' murders.

I was living in the Santa Cruz Mountains during the Early 70's while these three dirt bags went on their killing sprees and I still remember the fear of bodies being discovered near my home. I bought my first gun to defend my family in 1971 because Santa Cruz was being labeled (by the press) as the murder capital of the country. It was a difficult time for us all and I am not sorry that this obviously troubled person is gone. I hope that his passing will bring some peace to the survivors and to all of us who lived through that very difficult time.

JF worked for my dad as a mechanic on Ocean Street and Dr. Ohta was our eye doctor, so I have very vivid memories of that time. I was six or seven years old. JF had a wife and two small kids whom we had over for dinner in our home during his employment. He was a drug user and later quit working for my dad since cars were "contributing to the death cycle of the universe."

JF was sighted hiding out near our home in the remote SC Mountains after the murders. I vividly remember the terror of the murders, his proximity to our home afterward, the SC sheriff's dpt making sure he wasn't hiding in our home after we'd been gone. I remember the concern every time he would come up for parole, that he would be released. We were concerned because of comments he'd made about my father and we knew he was unpredictable when he was using.

I'm glad it's over and I still hurt for the Ohta family.

I have to correct you and I on the spelling of Taura. Squires, as much as I agree with you on her writing, she did spell Taura correct. I talked to Lark this morning and she verified that for me.

I grew up in Santa Cruz and was about 7 yo at the time. We lived in the DeLaveaga area our family had friends who lived in Rodeo Gulch about a 1/2 mile from the Ohta's....very cool area and still has a rural atmosphere even today. But for me, I still get the chills almost forty years later whenever I drive up that road - and I've always wished I could time travel back to Oct. 19th 1970, and put a bullet in Fraziers head before he reached the Ohta's property.
As for the earlier posts about about SC not being an ideal to grow up in 70's I completely disagree. Our parents worked close to home, we explored the local hills and creeks, played little league, rode our bikes around our neighborhoods and hung out at the beach on hot days. Unfortunately the city gov. was catering to some wierd street level element at the time - but regular hard working local families were not affected by what was happening at the Cooper House or under the San Lorenzo bridge ..... until this scumbag took his wierd delusions a little too far. I'm glad he's now burning in hell.
