Bill Patterson: "...if the estuary is going to be 6 feet underwater in 25 years..." Does that mean he thinks sea level could go up 6 feet in the next 25 years? Really? If so, Will Houston of the Times/Standard should do some arithmetic, and look at the actual empirical records.
The nearest tide gauge
is at Crescent City and shows a negative rate of -0.8 mm/yr for sea level rise since 1933, and since 1983 the rate dropped to a negative -1.9 mm/yr.
Let's see, 6 feet in 25 years comes to nearly 75 mm/yr of sea level rise. Well, there may be good and valid reason for Suzanne Marr to award the research money, but sea level rise isn't one of them.
