I have never liked any of those vehicles that the general public uses for "joyriding".
All terrain vehicles as well as snowmobiles and jet skis. All these vehicles were invented for rescue workers and I wish the government would not have allowed them to be for the general public. Most people that use these vehicles, use them for "joy riding" and I have heard of so many people being killed or nearly killed by them. And most of the time alcohol or drugs is involved. There should be a law passed making it harder for the general public to buy these. It's disgusting. Besides, with the cost of gasoline and all the fuss about not depending on oil so much, people still use these vehicles which use gasoline and pollute the air. If people are still allowed to purchase those damned things, a law should be passed requiring mufflers for them. I for one enjoy a quiet winter snowfall without those noisy snowmobiles. People most of the time are going way too fast anyway, just like the way they drive around here. Also, the damage done to wildlife habitat is enormous because of these vehicles, plus it chases off wildlife. I hate those things! How many more people are going to get killed or maimed before the law moves in and does something about it??

Can't believe you used this topic to voice your opinion on recreational vehicles. You truly are a despicable human being.

There are kids aged 9-15 in my area woods, driving these vehicles FAST in a pack at night, one right after another, jumping, catching air - you know the scene. They must be going 40-50 mph. It curdles my blood. They have no idea how quick they could be dead.

I dread the possibility of a fatal mistake right outside my windows in the dark. Sometimes I find myself unable to turn my attention away from it, because the danger seems SO HIGH and I feel compelled to be listening for disaster in the big woods.

Hate the things.

Jess was an amazing person who didn't deserve to die like that why would anyone want to voice there opinion like that...You must not have a heart. She was 18 years old and way too young die... She loved snowmobiling and everything about it. it was her favorite thing to do in the winter. I cant believe you are sitting here complaining about pollution when an 18 year old girl is dead.

This isn't about recreational vehicles this is about a young woman who I've known for a little while who died from a major accident.. I agree with "Just a Thought" lets not use this topic to voice your opinions. Obviously u don't know Jess because she loved snowmobiling.

Your a horrible person with no heart to be saying this, how would you feel if the shoe was on the other foot! think about someone other than yourself. she didn't deserve it and now she is in a better place. RIP Jessica your loved and missed.

Yes, the first post should be on a separate thread. Save this one for condolences to the family, and thoughts and prayers for the person who died in this tragic accident.

The initial poster was commenting on a *news article.* She wasn't commenting on the accident victim's obituary. And she wasn't impugning the victim's character. She was making a comment on the activity involved in this tragedy.

You have every right to disagree with her opinion on the activity. But it is a little over the top to accuse her of being 'horrible' or 'despicable.'

That is correct, but she could have at least been a little more sympathetic. She came off as a bit cold don'tcha think?

Are you kidding.... a girl just starting college on Christmas break passes away because of an accident and you need to vent about pollution, gas, oil and the use of sleds!? how do function every day with out a heart.. she now has no chance at a future, a husband or a loving family. and you just want to vent about the use of recreational vehicles, SHAME ON YOU

okay I have been reading the post people are making and this is just completely getting out of hand. This is an article that explains the death of a young girl it should be getting comments about how sorry you are for her family and friends, instead your wasting space by fighting. Who cares if snowmobiles are "pieces of junk" and "pollute the air" that wasn't the point of the article. So save the fighting and name calling for Myspace

Perhaps. And she may not win any awards for tact. But it is arguable that a criticism of the activity for being unsafe (which was the thrust of her post - not pollution) is appropriate here - even if it does come off a little bit like 'told ya so.'

must be nice to be rich and ignorant. someday i would love to live in Williamstown and drive an Audi, have no remorse for fellow man. someday hopefully ill live to that standard... the article is about the death of someone who hasn't gotten a chance to live the full enrichment of life. and all you people can talk about is snowmobile consequences. how about you pull your head out and feel sorrow and remorse for the family who lost there daughter. leave something nice, comforting and warm for those who are in mourning right now

Someone has been killed, and people are talking about snowmobiles, interruption to a quiet life, and how stupid other people are? Find something that you enjoy doing in your life, that is even remotely dangerous and stop doing it; hows that sound? Everyone should stop criticizing others, especially here; this is no place for that. So how about we leave the rest of the comments for people wishing the best for the family?

Amazing how many good ole boy rednecks with lowlife contraptions cannot see the common sense and decency in regulating those killer junk machines...
peace and quiet and common sense are alien to those bozos
Only Stupid People Ride Those Pieces of Junk
Yet one more idiot.

So everyone with a sled is a "good ole boy redneck" now? and, "Killer junk machines?" Are you a crackhead? I hope so, that would explain it.

Would you like homeland security to give you horse riding lessons so cars can be taken off from the road as well?(Or would that be too fun for the masses?)
These machines are registered, and taxes are paid, what else are you looking for?
