This is very sad. Randy Salerno was a beloved newscaster in the prime of his career and will be greatly missed. I'm so sorry for his family and his colleagues.

My heart goes out to Randy's family and friends. What a tragedy! I remembered Randy the moment I saw his picture. I am sure he will be missed by many.

Randy was a guy every guy wants as his best friend. Smart, funny, talented and behind all the teasing a heart of gold. In my years working along side Randy he taught me more than he'll ever know and made me be a better reporter by example alone.
I tell young reporters today that Randy Salerno refused to put a bad story on the air because his name was on it. He took pride in everything he did.
While I hadn't seen him in years we spoke recently over email and he told me he was anchoring in Chicago (his home town), had a loving wife and three beautiful kids, so his dreams came true.
Something tells me he and Norm Sebastian are looking down on us day smiling. Always smiling.

Randy Salerno interviewed my wife and I after the birth of our first son for a Leap year baby story for News channel 13 on Feb 29, 1992 at Albany Medical Center. We have replayed the tape many times over the years. Lucas will be celebrating his 16th birthday next month. We will always remember Randy's kindness to us at the hospital. Our condolences to his family.

I had the unique pleasure of working with Randy while at WNYT in the early 1990's. Very few people I've encountered in my career have made coming to work an experience of pure joy, as Randy did.
As the father of three children virtually identical in age to Randy's, I'm both saddened and awakened by how quickly and tragically life can be extinguished.
We have lost one of the good guys.
