Wow, that is why I would never sky dive. I hope he passed out before he landed.

I'm not trying to be insensitive but do they really need to schedule an autopsy? Isn't the cause of death pretty much understood?

I thought I was the only one that felt this way...

"Griebel says an autopsy is scheduled for today."
Why bother, I think we know the cause of death. Massive trauma due to a sudden stop at high speed.

Matty, this is my uncle. They do need to do an autopsy because they are not sure exactly what happened. They think he may have had a heart attack while jumping. He was also video taping a friend jumping tandom. I think if this was your uncle you would want answers as well.

Fair enough. I'm sure I would. I'm sorry for your loss.

I jumped and socialized with your uncle quite a bit over the years over at bo and alex's place. I didn't know him as well as many people did, but I always enjoyed being around him and will miss Bill a lot.

RWL- My heart goes out to you and your family. I have met your uncle a half a dozen times or so through skydiving. Although i didn't know him well, he seemed to be a really great guy. He was always smiling and had a passion for life and for his sport that he wore on his face all the time. You have my sympathies.

Above is a video posted on youtube by tandem student Doug LeStarge. The tandem instructor is William Doherty.

Since the video owner published it on youtube with the url available for posting, I'll post this here for those who want to view it. Should the family of Mr. William Doherty or the video's owner any person who has rights to video want it off of this thread, they can contact topix to have this post deleted.
