I think the perpetrators could at least be charged with Disturbing the Peace-sometimes the authorities have to improvise a little.

This is bull! I'm all for individual gun rights but when you have "boys" shooting firearms unsupervised in the direction of other homes then that IS a law enforcement issue. If there are bullets being negligently (or intentionally) overshot and hitting occupied structures that aren't part of the shooter's zoned property then, heck yea, it's a law enforcement issue! Wait till they hit someone and serious injure them (or worse). What's the Sheriff's excuse going to be for knowing about it and not preventing it after someone is killed. We're talking about high velocity rounds designed to kill, not pellet guns.

This same matter came up in Obetz Ohio. Kids were firing a weapons around 4th of July and a bullet travel through a roof of a house and almost through the family room. People can be really ignorant to this....until it happens to them.

There has to be something that can be done. What if they would have killed someone?

Damage to personal property or something.

Hell do whatever you can to keep them from shooting your house if the kids wont do it on their own.

Before being a legislative or law enforcement issue, this is a COMMON SENSE and COMMON DECENCY issue. What is the matter with people??? They may have a right to shoot guns on their property, but they don't have a right to kill their neighbors, and that is exactly what is liable to happen if they keep it up. They obviously can't shoot worth a crap, and surely they are now aware of the problem. If they were good, worthwhile people, they would give it up. But apparently, they are scum and insist on proving it to the world.

A second stray bullet striking a house isn't a law enforcement issue?

Sounds like this sheriff needs to be dismissed.

I would file a civil lawsuit and a criminal complaint.

I'm all for shooting guns, but you are responsible for the gun and all the bullets fired. If you do not have an adequate back stop that is your responsibility too.

Further more, I strongly believe in private property rights. Its a core belief of mine. These people have the right to use their yard however they please as long as it doesn't take away from the rights of others: "You have the right to swing your fist, but that right stops at my face."

Its amazing that the police don't or can't do anything. At least go to to the home owner, from which the bullets are coming from. I'm sure there has to be a responsible adult there( hope so). Talk with them. Durning hunting season you can't shoot within so many(?) ft. of a dewelling.

Where I grew up, we converted old chicken coops into indoor ranges. Gut them out and bury the 'targeted' end up to the roof line with dirt to stop the projectiles. Extra bonus, you can use them year round. Granted you couldn't do any long distance shooting, but it would be enough to sight in guns and practice hitting the bullseye. Just an idea.

If it damaged your house I don't see why you couldn't sue them to have them repair it. Once money starts coming out of their parents pockets I guarantee you they'll stop.

"Nothing they can do"? Pretty sad when law enforcement does not know the Ohio Revised Code. I can think of at least 3 laws that would cover a bullet hitting someones house, no matter where it was fired from. Might want to look into a new sheriff for Delaware County. BTW, love the post "shoot back" - that oughta stop it, lol

omg....what a bunch of hilljacks. where are the adults in this situation? why do "kids" have access to guns w/o supervision? why are they shooting at or around homes in the first place? this is pretty insane.

I would tax all ammunition so much that people couldn't afford to shoot anymore. Problem solved.

Just to let you know that the "father" of the house is shooting the guns too. This family also has a Cannon in their backyard and shoots mud balls all over the place.
VERY UNSAFE AND IRRESPONSIBLE.

I'm glad that you aren't in charge of that decision.
