Hmm,so more guns = less murders? Who wooda thunk? Certainly not the anti-gun nuts in the USA! There won't be any murder if a gun toting punk assails me-only a justifiable self -defense since this old man is allowed to carry his gun by the laws of CT & the USA.

You don't suppose the Finland gun culture stems from the fact that they are a very independent people who have lived in the wilderness for most of their recorded history. Plus the fact they have been run over by the Sweds, Russians and every other culture that found their natural resourses attactive. They are as close to our freedom loving culture as you will ever get, don't denegrate them for enjoying their ability to protect themselves. In every culture you get a few bad apples, that one chose to do harm, check out the number of people that were killed by cars and compare that to the number of persons killed by guns, no contest! Wait till the Chinese the world by utilizing our money, then make a squak!

Yeah, ask the Russkis how >they< learned about the Finn's "gun culture" the hard way when they invaded Finland in 1939. Although outnumbered over twenty-to-one, the Finns slaughtered the Russian troops by the thousands. Stalin was stunned when his troops were fought to a standstill by expert Finnish rifleman who used their marksmanship and expert skiing ability to cut down the Russians in the snow.

The Russkis undoubtedly wished that those nasty Finns had been subjected to the "civilizing influences" of gun control prior to their invasion.

Are'nt all of the Fin males (not sure about females) required to do manditory military service? The Finish history, as some have very accurately pointed out, required them to be vigilant, clever and accurate. They are very well trained in shooting and tactics. Their knowledge and skill has translated into RESPECT for weapons or be history. I feel this is the difference in cultures. The Fins are smart warriors not nut cases with running around with guns.
