Why would someone own a military-style rifle?

Dec 21, 2012 Full story: Click Orlando 26

One of the three guns Adam Lanza used to kill 20 children and six adults at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, was a military-style semiautomatic rifle known as an AR-15. That surprised and shocked a lot of people unfamiliar with America's gun culture.

We have a God given right to be able to defend ourselves and our property against those who wish to harm us.

Should we now ban cars and knives ?

I enjoy super accurate, match-grade firearms. They are beautiful as well as fun to shoot.

Why wouldnt you want to own one is the question I would ask. If your truly concerned about protecting your family in my book you would be an idiot not to want to own one because let me tell you something the outlaws will own them no matter what Obama says or does.

All rifles and bow and knives and chains and cars and... Shall I keep going? an assault weapon is anything that someone uses to assault another with. All modern sporting arms have their roots in military assault weapons.

Keep going, but a gun's purpose is to kill and you either know that and are being intentionally stupid or you shouldn't handle them.

one reason i want to own a rapd fire weapon and carry more than 10 round is that i also hunt the wild hogs in my area. the last thing i want is to be surrounded by 20 hogs, and limited to 10 rounds and a bolt action. maybe some people dont know just how dangerous the pork chop on their plate is while it still breathes. wild hogs are in epidemic population, around here and destroy enormous amounts of land.

Seems to me that there are military arms designed after certain modern sporting arms too.

My .22 heavy barrel was NOT designed for killing.
It was SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to target shoot accurately and that IS it's "purpose".
Try again. Your old hat talking points have been debunked so many times that the pendulum has swung in favor of our inalienable rights once again.

You damned right wild hogs are dangerous. So are domesticated hogs. Try getting in the pen with a farrowing sow that is eating her own offspring sometime and you will quickly find that out.
Hell a 10 lb Rhode Island Red rooster will spur the hell out of you and tear you up good too.

I had a couple of roosters that were like pit bulls. They would attack anyone and anything they came across. They wrecked my garden and all the flower beds and tore up all the screens on the lower part of the house.
One night a coyote came in and unburdened me. In the morning, all's that I could find left of the roosters were their heads.
That was the most peaceful they ever looked.

Interesting.
So, according to yourself, a species is either good or bad depending on what you like and do not like.
Some animals, you delight in their deaths, and some critters, you protect and proceed to slander and attempt character assasination of anyone who even attempts to discuss the issue with you, that you stereotype without just cause.

Got it.

"A military-style rifle"? I need clarification, please. Exactly what is a military-style rifle? The military has used nearly every gun available since the invention of firearms. My old, beat up muzzleloader was at one time considered 'a military-style rifle' because at one time, the military used them.
Sarcasm aside, the civilian militia needs to be armed as well as our military, whenever possible. Hence, you're damned right I own 'a military-style rifle.'

Reason 1. I like to collect guns.

Reason 2. I think they are fun to shoot.

Reason 3. In case a group of people try to break into my house.

Reason 4. In case the government turned against its own people someone.

Reason 5. In case of a zombie apocalypse breaks out.

A guns purpose is to launch a metal projectile out of its barrel at fast speeds. Whatever someone aims at and pulls the trigger is on them and their intent, not the gun.

There are people with good intentions and people with bad intentions. We focus on the people and their intent, not the tool they chose to use, lest we speak of many other tools abused over the centuries and seek to ban those because of their severe abuse, like government military and police? Or government power in general?

Do we now ban those because of such abuse?
