You ah serious? Pretty sure there was one of those cops that someone was trying to sue them and the city. Kinda easy to make stuff up in hopes of making easy money. I wonder if the "drunk victim" called 1-800-ask-gary when he fell???

Who in city government made these agreements with the "officers" ?
State their names and their job titles, Mara.
The city had to do this. There was no ground to fire these officers when the chief has let every minority slide by with even more egreious behavior. I am sure the city hopes these officers dont have attorneys already.

AALC and Community Members,
I hope that each of you are as outraged as I am with the headline, "Finney pal indicted in 1981 killing" in today's Saint Paul Pioneer Press. This is absolutely ridiculous as a City of Saint Paul Black Sgt. in 1981 didn't have any say in what happens in his own Department under former Chief McCutheon, so Maplewood is totally out of the question.

If you look at the StarTribune their headline is, "After 26 years, man is indicted in girlfriend's death", you will see the difference between the two and balance journalism. I hope that you will join me and others as we let the Pioneer Press know this type of high tech lynching of a Black man is not acceptable in our community. I dont know much about the female cop that was fired but I did follow the Sigfreed trial. I think it is weird how no mention of lack of extra force complaints in his IA file. You think it would but his letters of good job out weighs his complaints. There was medical testimony I remember in his trial that said it was impossible for anyone to get an injury like that of the drunk trespasser got from being assaulted. There were no marks, bruising, cut lip.....nothing but a bit tongue. But the blogging basement dwellers will saying he is "rogue". What happens if he is off work in st paul and you are being robbed? he might have jumped in to save your sorry nerd butt, but not now.
I kinda wish I was this cop because he got fired for something that does not compare to that of cops of color. Like..... hate crime at a gay bar, jumping over a dead guy that got shot in front of them, covering up a homcide, having sex with teenage girls.. all cops of color and not one was fired!! i am sure the city reversed this chief because he is so outwardly racist. a disoderly conduct is nothing compared to the above not to mention dwi's that god knows how many cops have those. if this was a white chief and these two cops were of color the NAACP would be jumping tree to tree in uproar. But these two cops are white and thus SOL. i would get one hell of an attorney then one hell of a paycheck from this racist chief.

Commenting on how well Matt Bostrom is handling the GOP convention:

"Hey everyone say hello to the undercover police officers in our midst. We have had undercover cop reports before, however this time we even have mainstream media reporting this in "March 25, 2007 City Police Spied Broadly Before G.O.P. Convention by JIM DWYER". I wonder how long they had this story before it was published. Now do you think that these police are targeting people who plan to break the law? No, they target committed legal political activists acting through totally peaceful means like me. Like you."

"We, the people of St Paul have a strong bond and kinship with our police force and we want that to continue. We follow the tradition of Chief Finney of service and community. Yet, that police bond and kinship is in danger for the Republican National Convention is coming to town. It is the Republican tradition to show no respect for the law, or even for common courtesy. It is the Republican policy to torture when torture is specifically banned in our constitution. It is the Republican policy to deny all protection of the law to the people it accuses, by kidnapping people to another country, by outright refusal at Guantanamo Bay, and by even just outright declaration in signing statements as the president approves the very laws themselves. The Republican party supports and enforces support of all these policies to deny law and justice. The current political firing of US Federal US Attorneys is only the most recent incident of politically denying law and justice. And there is no limit to where Republican backers will go and no limit to the resources that Republican backers will spend."

"So let's put the law totally on our side, ban all police methods that do not target individuals only. We are a community, lets act together as a community."

"All police officers must refuse any command unlawfully given to even one police officer. All city council members must then also stand in and also denounce any unlawfully given order. Every citizen must stand up for every official caught having to make the courageous choice of a lifetime. I stand up for law, justice and American values because everyday American soldiers fight and die for these same freedoms in far off lands. Let us show the same courage. For we are a community, lets act together as a community.***** Grace Kelly nicknamed Kelly The "never shut up" curmudgeon"

Oh please. Now this same Grace Kelly is on the Bostrom campaign? Give us a break. Obviously Grace kelly is nothing more than an opportunist. She writes this about Bostrom and turns around and joins his campaign? Whatever. The part that really kills me is the "tradition of Finney". Covering up for someone who murdered his wife is not a tradition in St. Paul, let alone in our police department. Someone should pull the plug on this chicks computer. I think she poses a danger to herself.

It struck me that the Chief most certainly fired the those officers anticipating that they would get their jobs back. My interest is particularly peaked in cases involving discipline and law enforcement because of my background in both. It is my experience both (in HR and as a police officer) that many times public officials will take a harsh stance in discipline to “send a message” to the officers involved and all officers overall. Sometimes, however, the reason for discipline that won’t stick is for the benefit of the public. The chief is managing public perception about his or her department.

Grace said, "Deposits in the bank of trust" is what the St Paul police call the long work in building community relationships. From two in-depth interviews that I had with Matt Bostrom, Assistant Chief, and Todd Axtell, Watch Commander, there are strong themes running through their decisions. And, indeed, many casual conversations with St Paul police officers back up these common themes of building trust."
Let's take a look at the "trust" under Finney, Bostrom, and Axtell.
Take a close friend of Bill Finney and former St. Paul cop Clemie Tucker. Tucker who was caught with over 17 pounds of meth. Tucker was arrested at Finney's house.
St. Paul Police Sgt. Benny Williams, another Finney friend who was caught giving confidential Department documents to Johnny Clark who was a major drug dealer in St. Paul. Thing is Clark was in jail at the time and he gave these classified police documents to Plukie Duke his Nephew. Duke is another friend of Bill Finney and was a major drug dealer in St. Paul who is now in jail.
Take Kenny Brennan, ex police officer and drug dealer, also known as Ken Kenny Pluff, Jr. before he changed his name? The Pluff family ran a major drug operation on the East Side. Brennan ratted out his fellow cops by informing on the cops watching his families drug business. Brennan is a security guard for a St. Paul company whose boss is a very close friend of Finney. His name is Sheldon Anderson. Brennan is a very close friend of Finney and Finney hired Kenny to watch the St. Paul Police Impound Lot.
Another Finney friend and drug runner for Plukie Duke was Aaron Foster who killed a woman in Maplewood back in 1981. Finney hired Foster to work in the St. Paul Police property room, the same room that held evidence to his murder case. The evidence went missing before Foster’s trial and Foster got off. Foster also cost the City of St. Paul over $20,000.00 for his inappropriate behavior against women police officers. Foster has assaulted and threatened many women and Chief Finney just brushed it off as boys will be boys and issues him a permit to carry. Finney I don’t feel that it is just boys being boys when you have a loaded handgun to their head. Also note the handgun in question was one Finney sold to Foster.
The sad thing is Finney did all of this while he was on the St. Paul School Board and while he was chief of police in St. Paul.
The St. Paul Police Citizens Review Board recommended that Sgt. Benny Williams be fired for giving this material to a known drug dealer and inmate. Finney protected his friend and only gave him a 30-day suspension. He is still employed at the St. Paul Police Department and works off duty as a security guard in the Big Top Liquor.
In addition to protecting his friends, Finney also gave out "Get Out Of Jail Free' letters to his drug dealing friends. This is how things are done in Chicago.
Finney is supporting Bostrom for Sheriff because he has something on Bostrom. Finney only supports people who will help him. Take Melvin Carter (City Council, Ward 1). Finney's drug running friends (Brennan, Axtell, Foster) are all working hard on Bostrom's campaign, I wonder why? Axtell also wants to be police chief, but he has some answering to do for his drug undercover work. Four years ago Axtell was in charge of the undercover drug operations for St. Paul Police Department. Finney directed Axtell, as to what to do and not what to do.
Finney only helps people who will help him in the long run. Finney made lots of money as Chief of Police. He protected his drug running friends and he supports people who will help his drug running friends.

I have never heard anything but praise about Bostrom until he started running for Sheriff. Now he's a crook? Too late. He spent 28 years keeping himself clean and being a good cop. He got a PhD to learn how to improve on management practices for law enforcement and that is sorely needed in the Sheriff's Office.

Those two cops deserved to be fired. I have yet to hear anyone lay out any reason why they shouldn't have been fired. One guy complaining about black officers and the NAACP not speaking up for them (and I did catch the comment about swinging from tree to tree. Racism blunts your wrongheaded point buddy. Go find a tea party to join.) Can you name one time that the NAACP spoke up to DEFEND a cop accused of brutality? No.

A new cop starting off being dishonest and making special exceptions for family members is not the way to kick off a 30 year career. Maybe out at the Mall of America where she worked, that was OK but not for St Paul.

Harrington did the right thing, these two have attitudes that poison the bunch. Firing them won't solve the problem but, it will stop it from spreading. This guy is a cop who had already been busted for excessive force on the job, assault off the job, harassing other cops on the job (East District basement parties) and seems to be just a jerk of a cop. The girl lied to protect family members. Her brother is already a felon. Felons got enough cops looking for them, how about one for the people?

I would venture to guess the NAACP would defend these St. Paul Officer's

Black Officer running an after hrs bar. Promoted to Horse Patrol.
Black Officer arresting than unarresting female for dui in exchange for sex. Paid 2yrs administrative leave. Retired.
Black Officer son causes criminal activity at a female alternate life style bar. Still employed.
Black Officer discharges weapon at vehicle doesn't report it. Finished career in Juvenile.
Black Officer releases confidential Police Data to imprisoned nephew. "Mistake of the heart". Still employed.
Black civilian friend of the Chief of Police causes personnel problems with white Sgt. Sgt. forced to retire. Friend later tried for murder.

Speculation is like taking a s h it, I guess you have to do it but, there is a time a place for it or its just plain offensive and rude.

You've real issues with race. You should get some help for it. Are you a white man over 50? If so, don't worry, that's the demographic that runs the world. You're still in control.
