I don't one a pair of flip-flops or any other kind of sandal. My girlfriend wears flip-flops/sandals from Early to Mid March to Early to Mid November every day. I don't mind her wearing flip-flops but not everyday and not when its cold. They are only meant for short distances. Her winter footware from about mid November to Mid March is sneakers. She is not into winter boots/uggs. My footware is sneakers everyday no matter if its 10 degrees or 100 degrees.

This article made me smile & think of my mother. She absolutely never let me wear flip-flops except to the pool/beach. I remember one time I went to a nearby Civil War battlefield with neighbors & wore the dreaded flip-flops. She didn't have to tan me, though, when I got home - my feet had paid the price. Never wore them much after that & definitely never when I was camping/hiking, etc. I don't even wear open-toed sandals when I canoe. Way too many way to kill my toes.

Flip flops make you look like a complete slob, or dirtbag.

I disagree - flip flops can count as comfortable shoes too! You just need to find the right ones in my opinion. I like Chaco, Birkenstock, or Teva brands for support, cushion and comfort in a flip. You're doomed if you're going to stick to the $10 rubber pairs form walmart though.
