Fishing the North Coast: All eyes on the Smith

With this year's first storm upon us, you can bet that every drift boat owner on the North Coast has been keeping an eye on the Smith River water levels.

I spoke to one of my brothers who happened by the Nimbus fish Hatchery on the American River this last weekend who reported that there are record numbers of fish (salmon) below the fish screen who are beating themselves to death against said screen.

Maybe there would be more salmon in our future if the hatcheries were operated properly!
