Good reporting, on one of the ugliest websites I've seen since the late '80s! As a starter (and believe me this is merely a starter) since what you really need is an actual website design team - at least put a thin black line around books you are reviewing, so they actually look like books, and not just random graphics thrown on the page.

As a 25 year veteran commercial artist, I am probably a little more picky than some, but you underestimate your readers, who see sophisticated and interesting design everyday and everywhere they go. So clean it up - I guarantee you won't regret it.
