How about just quitting white oppression and you won't need a retreat center like this, so that you can pat yourselves on the back for what you're doing for little black inner city children.

And how about quitting justifying black failures on "white oppression". Seems to me there is plenty of blame to go around in the black community - drugs dependency, crime, lack of education, early pregnancy. Those are all choices plenty of black people (and white also) make for themselves.

Good for those kids. It sounds like they had fun. Isn't that what being a child is supposed to be about?

How many have parents that are legal citizens or legal residents??

This is almost as bad as the Mpls. school district giving away boom boxes to kids for showing up!

They really should be careful there...no wonder they are from Chicago they don't know what goes on there.

Wow...the comments here are disturbing. The article was about kids have a great trip to a wonderful retreat center. Save your political and racist nonsense, as well as innuedno, for some other venue. Our students had a blast on this trip! The staff at Dunrovin are amazing, caring, and wonderful! They help our kids experience new things. And we do host student groups from other MN schools at our school in Chicago, so the exchange of experience goes both ways. So much negativity in these comments...it's a shame, because this was a beautiful experience. Let's focus on the positives.

This article is wonderful. I am so pleased that "city slingers" just had a chance to experience nature at such a young age. The quotes are hilarious also. I can picture Justin looking around with zeal and amazement, and Sierra screams "oh, Jesus!"
Thank you to all the teachers who contributed to this adventure with the students. I'm sure their lives will forever be impacted and the experience never forgotten!

When I was a boy scout, we took an 'urban youth' along on some boundary waters trips. It truly was a completely different thing than he had ever seen.

I wonder how dude thinks back on that trip--fondly or as an ordeal. Whites trying to be generous and help the 'disadvantaged' sure get it thrown back in their face often enough, and maybe the well-intentioned acts failed in their mission of goodwill.

Well, as long as you have the hate whitey types like aaron running around, it doesn't really matter what one does once the fact of european ancestory has designated one an 'opressor'.
