Non-swimmer, in a canoe on a lake and not wearing a life-jacket. Family will sue the canoe rental place for not properly training the fool to swim!

wow how sad. who cares how cold the water is you should still go after your friend and try to save him. Maybe he owed him money or something.

True, in California the legislature makes a law for everything here. Hence, the nanny state. Maybe you should send them a note. I'm sure someone we introduce the "safe canoeing act when you can't swim bill"

Sorry for the guys family.

The lake's shores are surrounded by more than one town. Big Bear Lake is one town, Big Bear City is another, and I think Fawnskin is another. Maybe more.

If you will read the article again, it says the canoe capsized, that means turned over, and both men were thrown into the water. It doesn't say his friend wasn't willing to go in after him! It sounds like the friend was busy trying to save himself! At least he knew how to swim or was wearing a life jacket. My bet is on him knowing how to swim so he couldn't save his friend also. He was probably too "cool" to wear a life jacket, as was his friend.
