Any way you look at this it's too sad a story for all - including Mr. Nixon. Lives are forever destroyed and families ripped apart. Prayers and peace for all.

What a horrible shame. Unfortunately he wasn't thinking about anyone's safety and the worst possible thing happened. To have to live with himself after the young woman was killed and his own son was in critical condition is punishment enough. I pray for him and everyone involved.

You should know more about what you are talking about..........alot of people have this problem not just firefighters.......if he would have been a businessman or a salesman that part of the story would have never made the news. This problem is in every walk of life..........and for your info we all are tested to get hired and randomly

I have heard that. Too much time for shopping which leads to drinking. Have you seen the show RESCUE ME?? This is very sad!

Bad judgment call for all the adults getting on this boat. I myself would not be on a boat that was being operated by someone that was drinking.

"not just firemen", thank you for acknowledging that a problem exists. maybe it can now be addressed!

if he had been driving a car while drunk, would the reactions be different. i think it is important for boaters to realize that boats are moving vehicles. No one should drink and drive.

No way to know for sure what happened; however, I know the area and possibily Nixon was 'buzzing' the marker and misjudged the triangular structual legs that pass outward from center of light. An attemp at 'fun' turned horribly wrong......my heartsad Prayers to all

While I am very glad that people are praying for all involved. I don't recall other stories where so much compassion was displayed for those arrested for DUI.

Just pointing out the facts.....

Well we all now know what happened. Mr. Nixon was driving the boat while drunk that is why he is facing so many charges silly.

I'm only praying for him because of the devastation he caused; one young woman killed, kis own son critically injured. How will he live with himself?? I don't condone any DUI; however, this one was a tragic, tragic case.

It is very tragic. I am grateful that you are compassionate and that you are praying for him and all involved!! He is so lucky to be a firefighter because the entire fire dept. will support him and his family throughout his life.

I hope and pray that his son will be restored to health quickly!!!

I wish my local firemen would have displayed some compassion when my family needed it!

I like this point. Yes, there were many other adults who got on the boat knowing full well how much Mr. Nixon had to drink and they too allowed the children (their children) to get on the boat. Why would we blame everything on Mr. Nixon? He was the one driving yes but he is not the only one at fault! Think about it!

I feel nothing but sadness and heartache for this entire circle of family and friends that have been impacted by this horrific event. I live on and boat on the Rappahannock River and know it is very difficult to judge distances, particularly at nite. Horrible accidents just happen and no one may ever know how this one occurred on that July nite. I am so sorry for all that have suffered the results of the decision to boat that nite, but I am sure no one has suffered more than Mr. Nixon himself.
I pray that God be with him and each and everyone involved. We all have made or will make mistakes and bad judgements during our life time and will suffer consequences as a result but also hopefully learn from our mistakes.

Enough said. I ask that all pray for Mr. Nixon and his family as these charges and trial come forth. Leave the rest in Gods hands and reserve judgements. His punishments can be no worse than his own heartaches that he lives with each and every day of his life at present. Pray that the law is guided by God's hands and the family's suffering is minimized. Brady's family has expressed forgiveness, the family that suffered the greatest loss. So, who are we that we should not keep an open mind and heart for a family that will continue to suffer a lifetime for one day of innocent family togetherness.
