umm where? Is this really such a problem in the ocean/bay around Marin? I could see this in places like Berryessa or the Delta, but how does this even apply to Marin?(am I missing something?)

A couple people out drinking on the bay is now a problem but drunk uninsured illegal aliens running all over town is OK.
And we just reelected the same sheriff?

T Durden,

Try going to Sam's Cafe on a warm sunny weekend day and take a look at how many drunk boaters get underway on their boats after leaving the establishment.

Wonder how much this costs taxpayers to find an average of 6.1 offenders per state?Another very wise and frugal use of funds and people.Am sure that boating traffic is way up given the economy and the price of fuel, must be at least 2 more violators out there per state.

Is that the jurisdiction of the Marin Sheriff Dept?
I'd also like to know about DUI check points for
boats ? DUI checkpoints are a waste of taxpayer
dollars. The Sheriff's dept is wasting my money on
this effort.

We keep a houseboat in the Delta, and THE biggest problem is drunk boaters. No kidding. A drunk behind the helm of a boat is just as dangerous as one behind the wheel of a car. The weather gets hot, these "boat skippers" get all fired up on beer, and poof - yeah, you've got a problem.

And, it isn't the youngsters. Near
collisions on the Delta because of a gassed "skipper" is the norm - NOT the exception.

But, where in Marin? San Pablo Bay? Every once
in a while you see the "Misson City" Police Boat out there, but thats it.

When I have been out windsurfing on the bay, I really don't worry much about freighters, they are predictable. It's the drunk fishing boaters all over the place that worries me.

Fortunately, the wind whips up the water, so I don't have to worry about the pleasure boaters weaving around. Calm winds = flat water = people going way too fast. And many after too many drinks.

Talk to the members of the Coast Guard, they have all kinds of great "drunk boating" stories.

So you can't have a couple of beer's while fishing, what's our world becoming, and we fight for freedom. This is major wast of money our tax dollars. The gross income of this show boating event won't come near the cost of putting on the performance.

They should crackdown on polluters in our waterways instead. Inspect industry and oil rigs in US waters for violations so we don't have another BP type disaster.

If the boater check points are as ineffective as car checkpoints don't waste the money. They only get a 1/10 of 1% DUI apprehension rate.

LOL, yea tell the Marin County Sheriffs to check all of the oil rigs in Marin. That should be useful. Oops, there are no oil rigs within Marin county.

LOL, big concepts escape that little mind of yours. Divert all this wasted money to securing the safety of our shores where oil drilling and polluting is ruining our commons, we the people own and use these waters, private corporations should not be allowed to destroy what is ours in common.

Do you wake up to a big bowl of stupid each morning?

Perhaps you need to reread the article dufus, it is a country wide action, and we have plenty of polluters right hey off the shores of Marin anyway, Chevron being one.

Just an ounce of intelligent thought would help you.
