the grammar skills displayed in these articles never cease to amaze me:

"Don't drink and fish or hunt."
So I shouldn't be drinking while fishing, and I shouldn't hunt at all? This should be "Don't drink fishing or hunting"

"It's more fun, and there's someone there to help if there's a problem." Did we get the word "there" in there enough? This should be "It is more fun, and by having a partner present, assistance is available should the need arise.

In the first few sentences, how many times was a reference to "the release" necessary?

"...according to a news release", "...the release said."
"...the release states." and again, "...the release states."

It's rare to read a quality York newspaper article that is well written and/or well researched. These are like new snippets from a junior high newspaper, which from my understanding, this paper is written for a seventh grade audience. Of course, you'll never read a Larry Hicks article that discusses the quality of reporting in this local embarrassment that I call the York Disgrace. Fortunately, I do not rely on this website for news above the level of a York city school debacle or perhaps a news release about the dangers of boating while drinking or failing to wear a proper PFD. On to the next!

Is this author serious? People who fish from boats at risk of drowning?
People who drive at risk of accidents.
People who fly at risk of crashes.
People who play golf at risk of infidelity?
People who walk at risk of breaking ankles?
People who spear fish at risk of being speared?
And this just in.....there is sharks in the ocean, don't swim there.

Genius!

The YDR keeps this kind of "news" going they just might go under a bit faster than I hoped. Are you hiring s bunch of grade school kids? And the Editor??? Now HE?SHE is a joke. Another thing that bothers me is folks like Fishel and Whisler are allowed to say what they want, I got edited for calling one of them a A hole. Hope this "RAG" does go down the toilet soon.

I like the article. I had my boat in the water all spring and ran more than enough idiots that for whatever reason ended up in the water. First thing I ask them is if they can swim. This one guy lied and told me he could, 2 hours into the boating episode dude was in the water with a death grip on the bottom structure of someone's personal dock. Not only could the guy not swim, but he couldn't even pull himself to the top of the dock! OMG I thought he was going to drown and they would blame me! I had to dock my 23 Ft boat by myself on a day when the seas were ruff run over and lift this guy onto the dock!
Great article, water is nothing to play with life vest or not. Be prepared the best you can for the unexpected, because stuff happens on that water at the blink of an eye. I deep sea dove for years, water scares me more than any of thing in life...

Your name is "I Care" but then you say "who gives a crap?" Great consistency there Pal.
What I posted IS constructive...constructive criticism. I wouldn't personally call it a "junk article", I just believe it could have been written a little better.
(And by the way, my parents never had a basement. Perhaps you should place major consideration on terminating the misconception that everyone else exists in a situation so similar to your own?)

your welcome.

Unfortunately common sense is'nt that common. I can relate to what Ruff Rider says. I spend alot of time on the river and the lower eastern shore of the Chesapeake. You would not believe some of the things I see. I agree this article sounds like something written for a 5 yr old, but, I've seen many adult 5 yr olds out there. I'm only surprised there are'nt more people killed on the water. I nearly got "T-boned" a few years ago on the edge of a cove on the Bay while crabbing. A guy was pulling a girl on a float tube in his boat. He was standing up at the wheel, nearly full throttle, with his back to the front and watching her. This guy went damn near 30 sec without looking forward. I hollerd and damn near jumped from my boat before he realized at the last minute. He turned sharp and the wake that he threw damn near tossed me off my boat. The worst part is this yuppie bastard never apologized and looked at me as if I was in his way!! Of course, he sped off and I never seen him again. Too many idiots with no courtesy out there. I saw a few idiots that day on the water that had no business out there. One of those days that I actually felt safer driveing the beltway on my way home.

Send 'em all out on small boats then! Give peace for the wildlife a chance, bag the hunters and anglers any way possible!

That sounds like a great idea to me! Don't fish either!
----------
This should be "Don't drink fishing or hunting"
----------
DO drink fishing and hunting and bag yourself or other's who can shoot back instead of the fish and unarmed animals.

Hey sidewalk sissie. Why dont you come out on the water and do it yourself. Please, I dare you. A buddy of mine hooked one of your buddies in the cheek with a Zara Spook about 10 yrs ago. We were fishing the Susquehanna Flats and had a boat of anti-fishing fags harassing us. We took a few casts at them and my buddy hooked him in the cheek. You should've heard those sissies scream...lol. Anybody who knows what a spook looks like, then knows he had to take a trip to hospital to remove it. My buddy cut the line and we got the hell out of there....lol. I'm sure the law is still looking for my buddy. Oh well. That was the best catch ever! Worth the trip! So, come on out sissie. We'll save some fish and hook u instead.:-)

Yea thats like the time I was stopped below York Haven in the middle of summer... the water was 2.5 feet deep and the waterways cop checked me for a life vest. If I fell over board I could have just stood up and it would have been ball deep. Those dip-ships have no idea and no brains and nothing to do but ponder another way to impose their stupid rules on others...just to make a buck to pay their own way.... yea we have dumb water cops here too......!.. to all of them !

Ball deep in 2.5 ft.? Either you have short legs or saggy balls....lol. I agree with your opinion though. More of a money racket than a safety issue.

Why dock your "23 FOOT BOAT" pull the fool into the "23 FOOT BOAT" . If the Fool made it to the dock he could have made it to the shore , Hell the dock can't be that big. I myself would have gave the guy a life vest then pulled the Fool into the boat then take him to the Dock and drop his azz off .

You seem to be on top of the grammar - perhaps you should go into journalism and fix this problem. With press deadlines and a number of amateurs in the journalism profession, grammar takes a back seat.
