I think the Wild Life and Fisheries (WLF) do a fairly decent job, given the task they are up against. There are so many drunk idiots who don't know how to drive a boat sober, must less intoxicated. The diversion canal is rated the second most dangerous waterway in the country. I do believe they could do better by focusing their efforts on the party boats, vs pulling over every boat that goes by to ask for life vests and regitration. I have been boating the Diversion Canal almost every weekend during the summer for the past 10 years. It is frustrating when i have a few adults and children on my boat, just minding our own business, drifting through a no-wake zone and get pulled over ... when there is an overloaded 40' speedboat, music blaring, dancing, everyone toasted ... and WLF don't pull them over. That's what I don't understand.
