Trevor, the word you want to use here is 'moderate,''reduce,' or 'minimize' not 'mollify.'

mol-li-fy
–verb (used with object),-fied,-fy·ing.
1. to soften in feeling or temper, as a person; pacify; appease.
2. to mitigate or reduce; soften: to mollify one's demands.

mod-er-ate
v.tr.
1. To lessen the violence, severity, or extremeness of.
"There's not going to be much we can do," Nathan said, "if we can't rely on each other."
Great. We're relying on boaters who provision their boats with two sandwiches and a 30-pack for an afternoon; then forget the sandwiches.
Berkshire County lakes are SO screwed.

While it's great the DCR/EPO are serious about the Zebra Mussels, it's also ridiculous to believe everyone will fill out these forms and have them on display on their dash.

Ask why?

Because the DCR/EPO have done nothing to make a public announcement that these PAPERS ARE REQUIRED, otherwise your tow vehicle & trailer will be towed away. I was told this by a female EPO officer as I was launching my boat for the first time this year. The box holding the forms was empty, I was 20 miles from home & she said I could not launch my boat until I had those forms.

This article here was a perfect time for the DCR/EPO to announce that these forms aren't just an honor system like what was talked about last year when the Mussels were discovered, it's a 'law' the DCR/EPO are trying to enforce.

For those who are looking for the forms, they can be found here:
http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/press/zebra_mussel...

I spent 30 minutes on the mass wildlife website trying to find information and a link to these forms. If this is a 'law', why is accessibility so difficult and since it is a new law, how come there has been NO announcements or a bigger campaign at the boat ramps to notify boat owners?

Let's not turn these ZM's into a circus at the ramps. Mass already makes owning a boat & trailer difficult enough as it is.

zebra muscles are moving from Laurel Lake to Stockbridge Bowl so they can be more upscale.
Other ways

What about the other ways that the mussels can hitch a ride?

Plenty of fishermen don't use boats but they do use wading boots. Will the monitors check them? Creels, stringers and tackle boxes are often set down in the water.

Hell, waders have big deep pockets on them. Will there be a TSA-style pat-down?

And of course there is always the sociopath who can simply scoop a bunch of these little devils into a bucket and toss them in.

Feeling lucky, folks?
