This was a tragic accident that will affect this family for life. Digging up the details will not change the family loss or make the husband and father more sorry for the events of the day. This was and still is a loving family trying to survive without a wife and mother. Were mistakes made? Probably, but not to the point of denying this family the father who has kept this family together over the last 3 years. If the state must seek pseudo justice, seek it with a compassionate judge and jury.
In the past, I have personally been in a boat twice that lost a person overboard. Once from a wake of another boat and once from avoiding a crab trap too sharply or quickly. Thankfully, both were recovered. I have also lost a family member that was thrown from a boat after being waked by a yacht traveling to Florida. At first, there was talk of prosecuting the captain who was in a no wake zone. In retrospect, I am glad we did not prosecute. It was an accident and the trial would not have served a reasonable purpose or brought our loved one back.
