I think the unfortunate thing here is that you are hearing about more and more of these types of things happening with people in "public safety" positions.
The problem is that it has become a job, not a calling or a profession. AA is available for the public safety personnel.

Did you pick and choose what you wanted to read and respond to? Yes ALL the adults should be held responsible. And i never said, you idiot, that you shouldnt arrest for Drinking and driving.. my point was that we have all done things and didnt think about the what ifs until after it was over and done. EVERYONE went out on that boat willingly, so unfort the events that followed are on them. And as far as that young WOMAN goes SHE WAS AN ADULT SHE KNEW DRINKING AND DRIVING WAS ILLEGAL BUT SHE WANTED TO HAVE A GOOD TIME.. so yes she is just as responsible.
Talk about blaming the victim!!! That is shameless!!!!!

Maybe so, but atleast im seeing this for what it is. Someone always wants to blame someone else for their bad decisions. That young girl who was killed got on that boat willingly! If you get into a car with a drunk driver and you get injured in a crash is it JUST their fault, absolutely NOT, you are a big girl and should be held accountable as well.

Wow, you have opened my eyes. I think the dead girl was wrong and she should be charged as well. Good luck getting a conviction.

Andrew you have no clue what deamons dance within this man's head. Can you imagine the emotional toll his limited judgment has taken on him? If he was chewing gum and looking smug, he probably didn't have a clue. Gosh, I guess he's in a haze. I don't think he's being protected. It looks as though several charges are headed to the grand jury. I do think it's awful to have those young children testify. After what they've endured I would think that just reopens their emotional wounds. What a horrifying experience. I feel so sad for everyone involved, including Mr. Nixon.

While this is a really sad situation and I realize that everyone involved has suffered I still can't excuse his actions enough to say that he shouldn't be tried and if found guilty convicted and sentenced.

People need to start taking responsibility for their own actions. Everyone by now knows what can happen when you drink and drive and barring any other mitigating circumstance (such as a malfunction of the channel marker or boat or a medical issue, etc.) I don't see how there is any excuse.

If everyone is concerned for the evil done look at how it left his mom..
Be happy that the little boy is alive and doing well.
He outwardly appears normal, and happy..Proud to have his dad by his side starting a new year of school..
The love in his heart he feels for this man..He was hurt, but he forgives him as well as of the rest of the family..Who are we to Judge..????
you are right no one should judge and he should not face any more charges

after all he is a fireman and that alone is reason enough to let him get back to work saving lives

Thank you Liz. Finally someone that understands. Firemen devote their whole lives to their community and are all good, family oriented, hard working men. They are there to serve you. Firemen do not deserve to be charged with any crimes because they work so hard and have to put up with so much. So he made a mistake, who hasn't? He should be forgiven. We should all move on and go out for a few drinks to celebrate.

I agree. Firemen and Policemen put their lives on the line everyday and truly are above the law because of what they have to put up with day after day with stupid, mentally unstable, and disrespectful citizens. I am sick of their stupid complaints and problems. It is enough to make you want to drink!!
