While it's sad that this happened, don't start blaming other people for the actions of a 20-year-old woman. She's not a kid. She knows what drinking is. She knows what swimming is. If she willingly jumped in the lake, she made a bad decision if she knew she couldn't swim. Put a life jacket on for crying out loud. I do my fair share of boating and drinking on Lake Erie too - not only does the boat owner make sure there are enough life jackets and that anyone going in the water puts one on...no one on the boat would go in the water without putting one on, especially people that don't know how to swim.
Again, it's sad that this happened, but stop blaming other people. Emma made the decision to drink on the lake and jump in with no life jacket. Throw some blame her way.

We hadn't seen Emma in a few years but knew her well when she still lived with her Dad. He was the most caring and dedicated father. Her mother was rarely mentioned by Emma and she seemed to want a positive female influence in her life.
It feels like we've lost her twice ... once in Lake Erie and when she left her father to a life not quite as wholesome with her mother.
I personally attest to her being able to swim well and she was athletic so there is more to this story (alcohol?).

I have known Mike, Emma's VERY LOVING and CARING DAD for at least 26 years. He raised Emma right and taught her morals, goals and values, when her mother abandoned them when Emma was a young child. Mike worked very hard to provide for Emma, putting her through a very good, private school. Mike's mom helped to raise Emma, too. Mike loves his daugther more than life. She was a very sweet and loving child and grew to be a wonderful young lady. Her mother was not in her life until the last 2 years and her livelyhood went downhill. Her mother allowed her to engage in behavior that her Dad would have never let happen. Emma was and is his life. Due to very sad lies that Emma was told by her mother, Mike had a restraining order put on him. His heart has been broken ever since and he will never heal from this tragedy!!!! He called me crying, numerous times, wondering where Emma was and if she was ok and wanting so desperately to just talk to her one more time. He never got that chance!!! He is one of the most decent men that I have ever known and he does not deserve this pain of not being able to be present where his beloved daughter was last seen. Emma had the world at her feet and we can only pray for her safe recovery. Tracy, if you read this, I can only pray that you will let your hatred for Mike be put aside for now and you can work together, through this tragedy and I am begging you to please let Mike be a part of this. I was on the phone with him, yesterday and he could not even speak, from crying so hard. Tracy, I know you are hurting as well. I can't imagine, but please find it in your heart to let Mike help. Peace be with you all.

So very sad. Hoping and praying that she is found and that the unanswered questions get resolved. To her mother, I pray the Lord gives you strength and comfort through this terrible ordeal.

upon reading the comment just above mine, a little late...I want to tell Emma's dad how very sorry I am for what he is going through. I really hope that the mother will let him be a part of helping to find her.....the person Heartbroken in Texas said everything just right....and I agree with them. To the father may the Lord give you strength and comfort now when you need it most.

Every one knows you should wear a life jacket while swimming in a large body of water but people dont use them all the time. She made her own choice to NOT wear a jacket. You sound like one of those, i'm always the victim - woe to me, people. Lets blame everyone else.

This is not about Emmas mother or father at this point! Why does anything from their past have to be brought up. This is about a missing girl. It is sick how people twist and turn this . Everyone is so quick to blame. Im sure that her mother and father love her very much and that is all that matters, not that they have had issues in the past. No one is a perfect parent! Lets focus on what really matters....Emma is missing.

A lot of the people on that boat are big drug abusers. I hope they investigate thouroughly, because there has to be a lot more to this story...

i know that emma nahas knew how to swim. i worked at many of emma's volleyball matches as a scorer and stats person when she used to attend our lady of the elms high school in akron. emma was very athletic and i remember somebody on her volleyball team telling me that emma did know how to swim. i do not know why her cousin would say (on another fox8 story about emma's drowning) that emma did not know how to swim. emma was a fairly good swimmer and i am fairly certain that somebody might have drowned emma by using her body to save his or her own life in the lake that evening. i remember emma being a very caring young woman when she was in high school and it does not surprise me to know that she would sacrifice her own life to help somebody else when that somebody else probably used emma to save their own life.

So very unsettling. An investigative journalist needs to get involved and really uncover this story. This is a powderkeg ready to explode once the truth comes out.

It was not my intent to deflect the focus from Emma, to her parents and I totally agree with you and I thank you for your comment. I was just trying to appeal to anyone that might be reading this that knows Tracy, to please ask her to see about temporarily lifting the restraining order under these very tragic circumstances and please let Mike be included in all of this. He needs to be there. I know without a doubt that Emma loved her father very much and would want him there, helping to look for her.

In the picture in this vidoes Emma has a drink in hand. Yes she is an adult, but she is still not legal to drink as were some of the others drinking on this boat. The first charge should start with contributing to minors. I cant believe alcohol testing was not done on any one of the boaters especially the owner. If Emma was drunk obviously it would make swimming harder and she would get tired faster than normal. I am on the lake often and I know my friends would never operate a boat like this. Raging music, beer, vodka & swimming far from where its safe? Bad combination! This probably isnt the first time its happened and wont be the last. This person should be charged before it happens again to another beautiful girl.

thats not fair to conclude that someone else used her to save their own lives when there is no proof of that, its not fair to blame the boat owner for the lack of life jackets if they are not the one responsible for the swimmers to jump. If no alcohol test were not administered at the time and there is no specific evidence of who and who was not drinking we cant point fingers at who was drinking under age or while operating a boat. If there is true suspicion for foul play, focus on that, if not quit those rumors because they add unwanted drama. Instead of pointing uneccesarry fingers and rumors, focus on the real situation and find this girl

the reports from lakewood.. mike, marc whatever your name is.. yes we are completely aware that you are very good friends with alex cucu (the owner of the boat) you made that very clear before and you also claimed he is a family man w/ 2 children right?? well if he is such a FAMILY MAN WHY IS OUT BOATING ON A THURSDAY NIGHT WITH UNDERAGE GIRLS IN BIKINIS... YEA SOME FAMILY MAN, he should have been home with his wife & kids... i feel sorry for his wife. and THERE IS WAAAAAY MORE TO THIS STORY... most of the people that are leaving negative comments on here were either on the boat or are friends with the druggie, alcoholics losers that were with poor Emma that night that are NOTORIOUS FOR BEING WASTED & DOING DRUGS JUST CHECJ THEIR FACEBOOKS & MYSPACE PAGES (which they all recently took down all their pics of that night, hmmmm),that constantly change their stories & continue to party like nothing ever happened, ask them why the guy in the water with emma was naked when the coast guard pulled him out??????... yes she was an adult (and which is why she could make her own decisions on where she worked and who she hung out with, so dont blame her family for that they just want their daughter back) but no one deserves to be lost like this. NO ONE... REGARDLESS OF HER FAMILY'S PROBLEMS WITH EACHOTHER, THEY SHOULD ALL BE COMING TOGETHER TO HELP GET THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO HER.... i pray Emma is found so her family can have some closure & i hope none of them ever rest until they get the full story because alex cucu has connections and you wonder why no tests were taken?? it happens all the time here in cleveland bc thy have money they get out of almost everything/// think about it... he should be charged with manslaughter.. im sure his lawyer he hired will attempt to get him out of it. PRAYING FOR EMMA & ALL OF HER FAMILY & FRIENDS BC SHE WAS AN AMAZING GIRL!!!!!!!

It is not uncommon in a panic situation for someone who feels their life is at risk to use another person as a floatation device in attempt to save their own life. Rescue swimmers are taught not to let a victim grab hold of them so they don't end up getting pushed or pulled under and put themselves at risk for drowning during a rescue. Based on the information in the article that the man in the water with this woman was screaming for help, I think it is not unreasonable to investigate and question him further about his actions during the event. As reported, he was the closest person to her location in the water. I also think it is a relatively scathing error of omission that the responding emergency services personnel did not conduct any sobriety evaluations or collect samples from the witnesses for the presence of alcohol or other illicit materials at the time this incident was reported, particularly since more than one of the attendees seem to be under 21. It wouldn't bring this poor young woman back, but could perhaps prevent a similar occurrance in the future.
