The boat driver stated thar he had 4 decades of experience driving boats. He must have started around 10 years of age. I am 66 years of age. I started fishing bass tournaments in the 1960's. I had a bass boat with a 65 HP engine. People were screaming about my engine, saying it was too large. Today bass boats have as much as 300 HP. Hmmm. Now I'm saying TOO big. I can say with knowledge that jet ski operators have way too much confidence in ther ability to operate their craft safely. The waterways have become crowded, and people need to consider that fact. PS. I won that first bass tournament.

Now you know why I Stopped fishing in the Summer on lake Guntersville as the people on Jet skis have NO respect for any water craft other than their own, will not leave you alone if anchored away from the main river ,and never observe the rules of the water. You never see the Alabama water safty patrol check them as I have seen them drive past 3 or 4 just to get to a boat, instead, on numerous occasions. Its like they have some kind of immunity because they went out and wasted several thousand dollars on a water craft that would be better off on the bottom of the ocean as a fishing reef. Think motor cycle on the water and you have the typical Jet skier, yes I'm sure they are fun but common sense gets lost the more they get into riding them. I pray the little guy is ok and recovers because he is innocent. Its the adults that dont show and teach them respect and the correct training that are at fault in such an accident.

I was actually there when the boat arrived at the pier. It was a terrible situation that could have been avoided, however it is just one of those freak accidents. My family has a place at Seibold and we were actually walkiing down to the pier to get on our jet ski and boat when the driver interviewed came running up and told us what happened. Everyone was shakin up, the pictures do not do the boat justice as to the damage that was done. I just hope this will make people realize that you have to use caution. Everyone wants to have fun on the water, we just have to respect other's space. The story yesterday was that the two were riding staggered one veared off and the one involved didn't have time because his line of sight was blocked by the first one. USE CAUTION and have fun on the water.

I'm not from Odenville, sorry no offense to those who are but I am not. Just had to throw that out there. I'm from Trussville, family in Guntersville. That is where I spend my weekends.

people need to be more careful on the water ,jet skis should have a certain place in the water and away from boats since they cant seem to see them, even though the boats are bigger.

The photo showing the craft involved is NOT a jet ski. A jet ski is a one rider vehicle that you stand up on and the handle raises for you to hold on to and steer. Perhaps riders should learn what they are operating and writers should learn the terminology before writing about them.

The jet skis I have road were the kind you sit down on like a motocycle. I road behind a friend who was driving.
I would think the 5 year old was sitting behnd his grandfather on the jet ski, even though the article did not make that clear.

Obviously it isn't a jet ski. Did you even read the story? It is the boat that the jet ski hit. Maybe you should learn the terminology before you write something. Why do you have to be that way? So rude!!!

The 5 yr old was sitting in front. The article really doesn't make it clear at all. It almost makes it sound like he was riding by himself until the very last sentence. The boy's face was injured, busted nose, knocked out teeth, and cuts above both eyes.
