If I'm unable to have a rational conversation, why do YOU continue to converse with me? Face it, you have a crush on me, but won't admit it.
BTW, I thought your goal was to bring a casino to Gettysburg, what happened to that? Oh that's right, Gettysburg didn't get it. >snicker<
They won't ever get a casino, all because no one with any sense would trust these dumb bumpkins even to park his or her car. Can you imagine a casino staffed with the likes of these fools? LOL!

Agreed, they won't. The local community wasn't prepared to make such monumental decisions regarding their community, so casino officals decided not to push the issue. I'm sure they realized the local community couldn't handle any business larger then selling trinkets on a street corner.

I was over at the Sands Casino today, that's located in Bethlehem. What an asset to the community, its ashame other communities weren't rewarded with a casino.

Why is Gettysburg getting all of this bad press? Is it that crazy there? I've heard of some gang activity, but this sounds flat out dangerous!!!

I guess nothing good lasts forever, used to love the town...

There is no bad “press”, only false stories and rumors spread by a few individuals. They had to go back over five years to find five incidents of “violet” crime in the area. That sounds more like Mayberry than the crime infested area they are trying to depict.

I am sure you have seen their claims that there is gang activity but they can’t show any proof, only their false accusations. They can’t show any proof of this. Back almost a year ago, or many longer, one local police chief said gang activity is increasing. None of these activities that these individuals have used have been associated with gang activity.

If you want the truth about what is going on, look at the crime statistic released by the state and federal government. You will find that Gettysburg is a very safe place to visit and live.

I went to school at Gettysburg, it was safe back then, this was ten years ago. Maybe things are getting out of proportion to the real crime problem, but the incident about the hike being set on fire really irks me. It actually does sound like a gang initiation ritual and not just high school kids blowing off steam by turfing lawns or something.

If my college age son or daughter wanted to go into town I would tell them go during the day and in a group of friends, you should be fine.

11th Pennsylvania, how can you be so sure that there isn't some sort of gang buildup or whatever? Just because it isn't all over the news doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Remember, organized crime generally don't like to be caught or even noticed. You can't even mention the existence of the gang if you're in one. I was a criminal justice major and I took a seminar on gangs and organized crime.

Lets just hope that the police can get this under control, what a bad time for it to be happening... It's the last thing Gettysburg needs right now.

I'm not sure that I should thank you for the honor but as the proclaimed King of Topix I hereby declare that on Topix the first weekend of fall will from this day forward be ever known as Troll Fest Weekend. Carry on trolls! This is your day!.

Gettysburg hasn’t changed a lot in the last ten years. We have had some businesses close, and some new ones open. We have had people move into the community and people move away. I travel through all communities in the area on a regular basis, and feel safe.

As a matter of fact there was one area of town that when I was growing up, I avoided because I was given the impression but many, including those who lived in that community that it was dangerous and unsafe. Over the past ten years I have had to go into this area many times. Guess what….This is a very safe and friendly area. I no am very sorry for all the wonderful times I must have missed by avoiding this small community because of the information I was lead to believe was true.

But one thing that has changed is for some reasons there is a group of people who know nothing about this community who have decided to use Topix as a forum to attack this wonderful community with lies and false statements and accusations that they can’t back up. Maybe sometime they will revel the reason they have such a hatred for this community.

But Gettysburg is one of the safest communities in the state, and even in the country. Just look at the crime statistics published by reputable organizations.

Is there crime in the area? Of course there is, you can’t find one community that doesn’t have some crime. Are there gangs in the area? Possibly so.

Did you notice that the only claims they can support have gone back as far as five years. Five years to find five crimes that meet their standards. Some have claimed there is gang graffiti all over town, yet when ask where it is, they will not say.

I have lived here all my life. I will probably die here because I love this community, and feel safe going anyplace anything.

When you or anyone can find a community that is completely crime free, please let me know, and I may think of relocating, but I doubt it.

AC, you're welcome with that honor. Now you may wear your beanie hat with propellers with pride.
What I find so amusing is how well you "guard" your kingdom.
Now, had you only been the vigilant when it came to the affiars of Gettysburg, the local economy might be in better shape.
Carry on oh mighty king of Topix
