No

No No No
Let's remove the facade of objectivity: The presentation was held in the town hall, emceed by the mayor pro-tem, who opened with a letter from the mayor, and no negative comments were allowed.
Strange way for a democracy to operate. If this has already been decided, why go through with the farce?
The "presentation", a 20-slide powerpoint that reeked of being thrown together the night before (19 of the 20 slides were low-quality photos stolen from other ski resorts), and the unpolished, casual, "we don't know what we're exactly doing" aspect to the whole thing - What exactly is it again, is it a dumping grounds for every pet project that the town has that aren't supported individually - New museum, new performing arts center, why not add a new airport? has ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE of being funded against serious projects with serious PR and serious architectural plans/proposals/etc.
Oh, but "the poor Estes Park kids having NOTHING to do". Against the backdrop of a national park, this would argue more for the intelligence of Estes Park's children than the defects of low amusement park rides/student ratio.
But I'm sure the committee that judges this, once they here it, will award a go-cart trak to Estes Park out of pity, rather than a NASCAR track that will generation billions of dollars of revenue for the state.
Another $30,000 down the drain. Thanks, GOB network.
I tend to agree

The vibe is the building was really wierd, kinda "you must agree with us or Estes Park dies" - I'm surprised they didn't give everyone standing obations, half the parents were practically in tears - "Estes Park cannot survive without a theme park on every block, our children are wasting away because there is nothing to do": It made me wonder if Estes Park had sports or music or any kind of programs like a skate park or a swimming pool or places to go in the winter to hike and cross country ski. Guess not from the sounds of things.
Please keep

All you positive comments as you review these proposals:

"Bring Nascar to Denver Group, I like the fact that you have your own website and your own office space and your own staff and your own marketing team hired"
/
"Bring Fake Skiing to Estes Park Group, I like the fact that you have your own free email account set up"
/
Postively, without a doubt, this Dump it all on Elkhorn proposal with a artificial-snow-capped cherry on top that won't be able to make snow on days when it is above 50 degrees in January, for example today, positively sucks.

I kinda liked Todd Jirsa's impression of the "mmkay?" guy from South Park.

now look, mmkay?, the town attorney said we had enough water, mmkay?, so if the town attorney says we have enough water, mmkay?, then that's good enough for me, mmkay?

"Town attorney says Sklyab wreckage will land in Pacific Ocean." Details at 11

Q: "Now Nascar proposal committee, tell me once again what you've done to prepare?"
A: "Well, we've been to 13 different tracks around the United States, we've spoken with a number of drivers including Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhart, Jr., three members of our group are or have been majority owners of racing teams, and we've had a nationally-recognized design team come up with the layout, grandstands, and parking."

Q: "Now Ski Elkhorn, no, don't say that, SkiEstes, no, don't say that, Ski and Sing and Stay and Square Dance Estes committee, tell me onc eagain what you've done to prepare?"
A: "Well, one day we walked on the hillside near the proposed kiddy slope when it was really windy."

Hold on, drive-by meddlers. The idea of the Regional Tourism Authority is to fund things that otherwise wouldn't be funded by private entities. Ergo, Estes Park is a perfect candidate, because taxpayers foot the bill for everything here. My hotel is empty. I won't lower my prices to attract lodgers. Bring back EPURA.

Oh, I've got a great idea
It came to me last week
When my rooms were sitting empty
Because I make everyone
Say the Pledge backwards

Why not build 15 Marys Lake equivalence
All over EP
So the town looks like
A giant condom, sorry condominium
You must respect my authortay
Because MLL sat empty for 2000 yars
Until I resurrected it

Lets do the same for Elkhorns
Lets make it a condomunity
Its not very windy
And the neighbors love 50 decibels
Please

Can some type of registration be added to this website? These anonymous posts serve no purpose. Everything I've read this far is the work of one or two deranged individuals, or junior high school kids with nothing to do.

(Personally, I like the idea of coating a mountain with Shave Ice and adding different flavors to the mix every day, so then when your fall down and have to wipe snow out of your butt crack, it tastes like a rainbow. I will be there every day. I will probably skip class to go there.

Seems to be a win/win proposal. Year round activity for both visitors and locals. Go for it!

ABOUT ALL THE IDIOTS WHO POST THINGS ANONOMOUSLY. IF YOU HAVE ANY BACKBONE AND ARE TRULY AGAINST THIS PROJECT THEN FIND A BETTER PLACE TO VENT THEN A LOCAL NEWSPAPER WEBSITE. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU. HOW ABOUT YOU WRITE A LETTER TO THE MAYOR OR DO SOMETHING THAT HAS SOME MERRIT. BUT NO YOU ARE ALL SPINELESS COWARDS WHO HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN SPEW GARBAGE OUT OF YOUR MOUTHS. IT PLAYS MORE TO THE INTELLIGENCE (OR LACK OF) OF THE ADULTS IN THIS COMMUNITY.

I tottally agree.

Unfortunately, at the public forum, any comments that weren't wildly enthusiastic were not allowed.

Do not adjust your set.

Let me repeat.

Public Forum = No negative comments allowed.

Welcome to everything we criticized dictatorships and socialists regimes for in the 1960s.

Welcome to Estes Park, where things are decided before they're presented.

Public forum = No negative comments allowed.

Soon enough, we will be voting and have our ballots thrown out, since the local elections will already be decided beforehand.

Public forum = No negative comments allowed.

When does the public gets its local government back?

Jump in the bumper pool.
I could see how this could really catch on. Estes Park could hold the first presidential non-debate.
Okay, now we're going to have a presidential non-debate. Remember, Democratic candidate, you are not allowed to say anything negative about the Republican candidate. Republican candidate, you can unload on the Democratic candidate, you can say whatever you want.
In fact, this is such a good idea, I may approach the mayor about it. Perhaps we could apply to the Regional Tourism Authority using this approach.
Estes Park is the best place to hold a non-debate, because we hold them all the time.
Please do not criticize this idea. No negative comments are allowed. I just made a beautiful poop and it smells like flowers.

Members of the Cabinet, I've called you here today to discuss a very urgent matter. I have just received word that Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese. No, I'd like you to go around the table and give your input, but remember, don't say anything negative about Japan.

Members of the CNN brass, I've called you here today to get some suggestions on why my show is doing so badly in the ratings, and what we can do to change that. Now, lets go around the table and brainstorm, but remember, you must only praise me with your comments.

Thank you fellow church picnic attendees. Again, for yet another night, I have no guests in my lodge, and am proud to announce that, because it for sure makes people want to come to stay there. Now, I'd like you all to put down your chicken legs and tell me what we can do to change that, something that doesn't require me to do anything in the way of improving the rooms or the price structure, but instead finds a way to reimplement some type of disguised handout where we reach into people's pockets and give their money to other people, something the public overwhelmingly voted against, before we came up with the idea of disregarding people's votes if they didn't vote the way we wanted.
