Good season recap. You did, however, forget to mention Sami Lepisto and Scottie Upshall under arrivals. Some rather sobering numbers there at the end, makes me think the losing won't end any time soon.

Holy Puck Raker! I don't think a report card could be any worse.

I can't see playoffs in this team's cards anytime soon. I think all you can hope for is maintainable improvement.

I've been railing on Howson and Priest (I still think they both should be replaced immediately), but Arniel is not blameless. The PP and PK are on him and his coaching staff. Hitch did better with the same players.

And oh yeah, keep all this quiet. We wouldn't want to wake up McConnell as he sleeps thru all of this.

I'll just keep saying it

dispatch coverage of the CBJ and the comments section with colorful commentary by "fans" is like an extended chat session with Debbie Downer.

Guess when it comes to the Blue Jackets Xtra~ misery loves company..

I don't know what's more embarrassing- a bad loss or the attitudes of the teams beat writers and it's supposed fans. How we expect to get respect from the league is laughable when we can't even get it from home.

If you want to sit there and "wha wha wha" about the past then go ahead, and for god sakes take a valium while you're at it.

maybe if we look forward we can recoup and rally ahead. eh? maybe a whole year without Hitch comparisons or Calder year reminiscing or other teams fans etc etc.. There is constructive criticism and then there is the beat of this cantankerous drum.

I for one need to think positive no matter how ridiculous it may appear to everyone reading. Its my team and my town and I'm going to show pride to the end. It's not blind devotion, I certainly know that this team needs serious SERIOUS work from everyone in the organization. However, I have a little self worth and respect and WANT to show that in relation to the team that I am a fan of. it's called not talking out of both sides of your mouth people. Either be a fan or find another damn team to follow.

GO JACKETS!

Hey EEE,
You were me for the first 9.75 years of the CBJ's existance. I don't think the article was negative. He did point out Umberger, Calvert, Clitsome, but seriously overall this was a horrible season. Its most disappointing because us fans were shocked by GMSH's decision not to change the roster. We questioned why would you expect different results with the same players??? As it turns out the was NO difference. The records were exactly the same.

There were many embarassing moments...the Pittsburgh game was unacceptable and then the CBJ oragization thought it was a good idea to put Pens fans on the Zamboni!!! Don't get me started on Boomer! Seriously??? A giant penis on wheels???

I am still a CBJ fan but at the same time we should not look at them through GMDM colored glasses.

I say bring back Hitch and make him coach and GM then tell the players that a mistake was made by firing him and they were the problem, not Hitch. Then let Hitch get players he would want and become a team nobody wants to play.

How can you respect a culture of losing? An organization that is satisfied with just "showing up"?
How can you take pride in consistent non-stop failure, and that on an unprecedented level?

GMSH says that he couldn't make trades because there was nothing that made sense, but literally EVERY OTHER team in the league found something that made sense, and pulled the trigger to improve their team.

This isn't a case of life handing you lemons, so make lemonade. It isn't citrus fruit that we are being handed. It isn't even edible. And we have been choking it down for over 10 years now.

You can have hope and be positive, but sometimes change only comes from looking reality straight in the face and calling it by it's true name.

The only stat you need in the whole article was 1 regulation win in last 22 games! Playoffs were determined right there alone despite all the other issues.

Good read Porty; clear, concise, succinct, good research, broad scope.

Did that other guy get paid for HIS article the other day (two days of reading blog postings after the Howson interview)?

Ok Inquiring Minds- very valid points you make. But again, are you the person donning the CBJ sweater sitting there going on and on about how much they suck and how you hate everything about it? Cause it makes no sense.

I look at it like this~ I don't need an ulcer focusing on things to bitch about that don't make a bit of difference in going forward. Sitting in the world of 'if we didn't fire Hitch or what if Hitch were back or what if we had cleaned house last year and what if we had picked so and so' and on and on and on. Living in that world of what-if's keeps you right there.. and it does nothing but give you gas.

So lets split the difference of a bitch session and real constructive discussion. Yes I wonder where Howson's head was during last off-season. I wonder why guys that love to play hockey need reasons to play well and to win games. I wonder what 'inspiration' is needed (other than the demise of public ridicule) for the jackets to win and keep winning. Now I want action. Don't think that Howson doesn't know his job is so seriously on the line as of February- even with the vote of support from the powers that be. Don't think that these players aren't sweating balls about their future come July because they played like shit most nights if they came to play at all. do they think they're going to get contracts with 08/09/10 resume? I want to know that they will quit bringing in old sages for veteran experience that can't play more than 3 games and in those 3 games they suck suck and suck. Think Nash & Umberger love the fact that management thinks that they can't provide enough guidance? WHAT THE HELL?! Work on the lines you want together CONSISTENTLY so that they know how each other work every time they're on the ice (yeah, cause mixing it up is really working). Dynamic works with guys that want to work together, not the ones that get stuck on this line or that due to performance... in the middle of the game. Make changes to benefit the team. The only benefit to our February trade was to Klesla. Hell, I still am bitter about the Chimera trade (*see old sage comment- even more salt in the wound).

I'm going to go out on a limb and think that, as opposed to the team 'thinking' that it can only get better, that there might be a game plan to accomplish it. Too much to think that Columbus has finally been complacent enough? The niceties are over. Sounds really good on paper right? I'll rally behind the team because I HAVE to believe that all the fed-ups have been cashed in and what an off season this will be- rose colored or s*$% colored glasses and all.

I will call this season what it was- a crock of crap with a healthy dose of what the hell were they thinking. I will look to next season hoping for a whole new recipe, cause I love hockey and I'd rather be missing it for 4 months rather than 6.

Expectations on the young kids is way too high here. Other clubs do NOT rely on their kids as much as the CBJ does. The GM's job is to get players to fill spots until the kids can play at a better level than the vets. Jake and Brass should be on the 2nd line. Russ is a 3-4 d-man - Stralman was way more disappointing than Russ - plus he made $1.9M - where were is PP points? He sure got paid for them. My most disappointing is GMSH - his inactivity marked this season before it started and anyone who thought this was a playoff team 10/1/10 is eating the $%#^ shoveled out of NW Arena. Take off your CBJ glasses - this team is not good enough to compete in our division let alone our conference. The flop at the end - look at their schedule - they played the majority against division and conference foes and we all know that we cannot beat Nashville, Detroit, Chicago, Vancouver, etc on a consistent basis. We are simply not good enough nor do we have enough depth. That's why I propose trading Nash (for 2-3 NHLers), sign a great RFA (Parise, Doughty, etc) trade the Juice's, Commie's, etc for picks and then package them for NHLers. It's possible - it takes work and creative thinking from our FO.

EEE,

Keep thinking happy thoughts and keep playing at the kid's table. Where has that gotten you and the team? If you prefer to be punched in the gut season after season, be our guest.

Let the adults tell it like it is.

We are well removed from the McLean era so what are the current excuses and explanations? if we want to be unforgiving, go back to when they terminated Dave King. Can you imagine how good they would be had this professorial - professional been around???

Dump Juice, Boll, and Garon, have Tyutin work the off-season on being PP QB, and pray!!!
