There are far more important sites pre European that are in and around Taupo what about these sites?Taupo has a wealth of history right on our doorstep and excavated ones as well and is of far greater importance than some skanky old Redoubt and old court rooms. The reason the Redoubt was situated where it is was because the Constabulary couldnt hold their liquor and burnt down a whare on the other side of the river. The chief of that time Poihipi, evicted them to the now town side of the river bet you didnt know that lol???
