Mayor Rick Cooper told a gathering of Town Centre Taupo members months back, that it was his idea to make the roundabouts smaller, as it would make the traffic slow down and come into Taupo instead of bypassing the town. Yeah right!!
All its done is cost us rate payers millions of dollars!!

This type of mentality seems to be contagious as they have the same symptoms here in Wellington.

The motorway that passes Johnsonville was resurfaced with some type of super grip type surface on the bends.
Roadworks went on for a while as it usually does causing inconvenience and delays and then a few weeks later they had to do it all over again the resurfacing didn't take.
They ended up redoing it about 4 or 5 times over a period of about 18 months and have now ripped it all up again and resurfaced with tar instead of the special grip type surface

I wonder who pays for these random thoughts of "inspiration" Perhaps our so called roading experts should take a trip to Germany to learn how it done right and done right the first time

The original design of the roundabouts met current standards but during construction it was agreed by NZTA and Taupo District Council that there was a need to adjust the roundabouts to future proof the road with it being a strategic freight route. The final cost of the roundabout adjustment has not been finalised. The road is due to open in October 2011, 5 months ahead of schedule.

i dont think i would be slagging rick off over this issue as i dont think you would be bitching about the idea if it did infact slow traffic down and funnel new out of town customers into your business
get it into perspective please
