Christchurch, New Zealand sucks

Moved here 4 years ago from london,Used to be a happy young positive person, but living in the city where everyone is pessimistic and unhappy starts to grind at you after a while, Im starting to become more negative, being around such depressing people its hard to stay positive. I can safely say, I HATE THIS CITY

Four years? I doff my hat to you. I wouldn't have lasted four months before the boredom killed me. Have you though about moving to Australia? It's warm and the people are friendly. Otherwise, Wellington is a bit more lively.

If you have such a big problem with Chch then frikken move away, its easy to whinge but not do anything and you're making other people depressed when all you do is bitch and moan about it.
Sheesh.. I like chch and seriously do something about it you have such a issue with it.

i back up all comments here...well except from umm okay. i lived in christchurch and am happy to say that i escaped. my advice is leave, and tell your friends not to go to new zealand...the place is aweful.

There are actually decent parts of christchurch if you look around.

The biggest problem is the boyracers and hwo for somereason they are allow to run amock in the city.

We've lived in Christchurch for just over a year and it's been over a year too long for us. If you weren't born and inbred here then you're not welcome. Besides the weather being crap all year round bar maybe a week in total, the people are generally rude and narrow-minded (like the many hedges blocking the "scenery" around Christchurch, creating a boxed-in feeling, people here can't think outside the box). We can't wait to move back to the real country where people are normal and wages are decent and the weather sh*ts all over NZ weather. There really is no comparison between the superior Australia and this second rate shithole called New Zealand (especially Christchurch, which would have to be the arse hole of New Zealand).

Quite hilarious to stumble across this site virtually by accident. I was born and bred in Christchurch, and finally got the opportunity to work in Melbourne 31 years later.
Since living here for the last 4 years, i've thought alot about the state of affairs in NZ, and Ch-Ch especially. I don't recall seeing any Kiwis disputing the negatives on this site, I guess that's because frankly most of us agree with them.
The only positives for myself are having family who still live over there, and you can't deny the amazing untouched scenary, but you don't need to live there to enjoy it.
Moving back to NZ would be a huge step backwards in my opinion. The NZ government have a lot of work on their hands to change things for the better that's for sure. Even if that happens, the weather is just shocking, and most homes there are not properly set up to handle the long cold winters you get in the South Island.

Because most kiwis from Christchurch seem to move to Perth I suppose it was assumed that you were there. I'm thinking of moving to Melbourne. I hope it's not similar to Christchurch in regards to the weather and people's attitudes. I've heard that Adelaide is very similar to Christchurch so I'll be steering clear of that hole.

i jst moved back to my home country after studying there for 2 years, it sucks balls, tho i met a couple of great friends (although only 4) which is pretty decent, otherwise the place, again, sucks monkey balls, thank god im not there anymore.

p.s: oh yeah, and fuck the cathedral square and a-town (for those who've been there)

Im a kiwi, returned to NZ in 2008 after spending 3 years in the USA... 3 WONDERFUL years; came back here to have childern and to take full advantage of the free natal stuff they have here because lets be honest that is the only thing going for this place.

We are moving back to USA ASAP, this place is driving us insane.

why does everyone hate nz its really cool and usa ok but I live in NZ and I dont want to be sourouned by 1'000's each and every day of my life thats why I liked borghorst germany its was nice and queit and also whagamata are cozy in winter cuz there queit and I like places if there queit and I like the od crowd but being sourounded al the time I dont like
