The walls of Jay Salpeter's second-floor office in Great Neck hold images of his beloved Jets and Mets, as well as what he could regard the hard-earned trophies of his trade as a sleuth-for-hire. There with the ...

I THINK KUDOS FOR MR.SALPETER ARE MISGUIDED. The real hero in this case is Marty Tankleff. It was Marty who was smart enough to persuade Jay to take on the case - for free. That is some pretty good persuading I would say. And it was pretty smart of Marty to pick the right man for the job.

All Jay did was to do what he does best - Investigate. Hey, we expected no less, so why all the hype?

GREAT JOB JAY. IT couldn't have happened without you. The obstacles of getting people to give testimony against the interests of The Suffolk County and PD are insurmountable for the average guy. It takes a man of David's porportions to overcome those very real obstacles.

To paraphrase Ralph Kramdem in one of the best Honeymooner episodes: Apparentlely, Tom Spota never met a NYC detective. You have done our former professions real proud, Jay. Thanks for making it happen.

"When Salpeter began his investigation in 2001, he found that a woman named Karlene Kovacs had provided an affidavit to Tankleff's attorney Robert Gottlieb in 1994. In that document, Kovacs said that Joseph Creedon, a known drug-debt enforcer from Selden, had mentioned at a party that he was at the Tankleff home with a man named Steuerman on the night of the slayings."
Why did the suffolk DA fail to properly investigate this?

This is just ONE of many witnesses accounts that the DA chose to ignore. They arrogantly thought that these people would eventually all go away and they could keep Marty in jail and all of their guilty friends who put him there would stay off the hook. They didnt count on Jay Salpeter beating agreeing to take this on,for free no less, and beating them at their own game.Mr. Salpeter, you are a hero.

Jay Salpeter should be given a medal for getting to the bottom of this. I trust his findings. I pray that either the state or federal government charges those in the police department, DA's office and the judiciary who allowed this travesty to occur and who are still not bringing to justice those responsible for these terrible murders.

The Suffolk County DA has 30 days to turn over Arlene Tankleff's fingernails for DNA testing. The chickens will be coming home to roost soon.

Well, now can they claim they do not have that evidence any longer?
And if they do, who does the testing? Suffok? I would'nt trust them at all with anything at this point!!!!

Do they have to get a court order for this testing? I can't image Kent, Stuerman etc.. would give it of their own free will. And is it 30 days from the day the sentence was vacated, or from when Marty got out of prision?

Just it should happen that Marty is freed from all this and could go on to living a happy productive life. From our mouths to God's ears.

Marty should be set free and given a load of money to live out the rest of his life w/o having to work!

He should get to spend the next 19 years sipping Mai Tai's on an island---at the very least!!!

If Tankleff is innocent the main reason for his conviction is his former attorney Robert Gottlieb. His main interest back then was becoming DA and he used this case to launch an attempt to get elected. He tried to portray himself as an experienced lawyer when he took on the defense of Tankleff and his failure in the courtroom was evident. IF their was a miscarriage of justice he shares responsibility.

Decayed fence or no decayed fence, what is the difference? Why he presented it is still a mystery to me. I am speaking about the pipe.

THE ONLY IMPORTANT THING REALLY IS: The knife and the barbells were NOT the murder weapons and a pipe in an empty lot is better than what the cops presented for evidence. It is more likely the pipe was the weapon than the knife and barbells was the weapon.

Nice to read about someone who tried to help an innocent man....and did !!! Must have been a powerful letter from Mr. Tankleff, to persuade Mr. Salpeter to look into the case, and to do it for no pay. Kudos, Mr. Salpeter.

DON'T BE SO SURE. SOUNDS LIKE MOST OF THESE SO-CALLED WITNESSES HAVE AN AJENDA OF THEIR OWN. PROBABLY WON'T BE ANOTHER TRIAL. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HOTROD LINCOLN?
