In an impassioned speech that at times took on the tone of a campaign rally, Mr. Obama told an audience of 3,100 at the University of Hartford that he came to Connecticut to ensure that the deaths in the school in Newtown would not recede and to remind Americans how important their voice is as the gun debates unfold.
“If you’re an American who wants to do something to prevent more families from knowing the immeasurable anguish that these families here have known, then we have to act,” Mr. Obama said.“Now’s the time to get engaged. Now’s the time to get involved. Now’s the time to push back on fear and frustration and misinformation. Now’s the time for everybody to make their voices heard, from every statehouse to the corridors of Congress.”
But as Mr. Obama spoke, Republicans on Capitol Hill were threatening to prevent a gun-control measure from even coming up for debate.
Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, announced Monday that he would join at least 13 other Republicans who have vowed to block consideration of gun legislation passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee and assembled by the Democratic leadership. That effectively made the threatened filibuster a test of Republican unity.

Political pandering at its worst. The proposed federal ban, like the ridiculous NY SAFE Act pushed through by Cuomo, won't stop sick killers like those in Newtown, Aurora, and Tucson, but will instead criminalize millions of law-abiding Americans who currently own legally acquired weapons and ammunition magazines. It also won't stop criminals, who don't obey the law to begin with, or the mentally ill who can't cope and need to be put into institutions for treatment. What it will do is pander to those in Obama's adoring political base, like ZCs.

REASONS TO CHEER FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!
RIGHT POWER!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT IF...Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld had done nothing, and allowed Richard Clarke & Company to continue their pursuit of Osama bin Laden? What if Bush had paid attention to those warnings (as Clinton did)? 9-11 might well have been averted.

WHAT IF...Bush had valued what he inherited -- a balanced budget -- and DONE NOTHING. No massive tax cuts benefiting the top 1/10th of 1 percent. No massive deficits. 8 years -- budget still balanced, instead of trillions in new debt and a tax code designed to make the government untenable without savaging the social safety net.

WHAT IF...Bush had treated FEMA as a serious agency with a vital role to play in national emergencies? What if he'd appointed a serious administrator, instead of an incompetent crony bent on looting the agency and wrecking its ability to function properly? Katrina might have turned out quite differently.

WHAT IF...Bush had hadn't worked overtime to destroy the regulation of financial markets? What if he'd DONE NOTHING, and let regulatory agencies do their proper work? The financial crash of 2007-8 might never have happened.

WHAT IF...most importantly...Bush/Cheney/Rums feld hadn't conjured stove-piped "intel" to stampede us into war after 9-11? No trillion dollar wars, shoveled onto the spiraling national debt...no thousands of American soldiers killed...no hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed...no Abu Ghraib...no disillusionment of the American public in our ability to fight and win wars...

Speaking of "what-ifs", what if Clinton had taken care of business after the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, the attacks on the USS Cole and Khobar Towers, and the African Embassy bombings? If Clinton has taken care of Bin Laden and Al Queda when he had the chance, 3,000 Americans wouldn't have been murdered on 9/11, and there wouldn't have been a need for "trillion dollar wars" on terror by Bush.

President Obama!!!

Right Power!

HIGHLANDS, N.J.— New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Monday that President Barack Obama “has kept every promise he’s made” about helping the state recover from Superstorm Sandy.

Hours later, Obama’s housing secretary approved New Jersey’s plans to spend $1.83 billion in federal money to help the state rebuild and recover from the storm.

Speaking on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program six months after the deadly storm, the Republican governor said presidential politics were the last thing on his mind as he toured storm-devastated areas with Obama last fall.

When it comes to helping New Jersey rebuild from the storm,“the president has kept every promise he’s made,” said Christie, widely considered a potential candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.“I think he’s done a good job. He kept his word.”

Christie’s warm embrace of Obama after the storm angered some Republicans, who said it helped tip a close presidential election to the Democrat and away from Mitt Romney, who Christie endorsed and for whom he campaigned last fall.

Another reason to cheer for President Obama!!!

The number of Americans filing new jobless benefits claims fell sharply last week to its lowest level since the early days of the 2007-09 recession, a sign the job market is still healing even though the economy remains weak.

Other data on Thursday showed a narrowing of the trade gap in March, although drops in imports and exports offered warning signs over the strength of domestic and foreign demand.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 18,000 to a seasonally adjusted 324,000 last week, the Labor Department said.

The claims report runs counter to a growing number of signals that economic activity softened in March and April, a phenomena economists have dubbed the spring swoon because it also happened in the previous two years.

"Growth slowed between the first and second quarters, but the claims data suggest that the extent of this slowing was limited," said Daniel Silver, an economist at JPMorgan in New York.

The data on claims has no direct bearing on the Labor Department's monthly employment report for April due on Friday. However, it suggests employers are feeling less pressure to lay workers off, even if they have cut back on hiring.

"Layoffs (are) not an issue. Companies are reluctant to hire. This is keeping the jobs market in a rut," said Ryan Sweet, an economist with Moody's Analytics in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Analysts had expected 345,000 new jobless claims last week, and the positive signal from the data sent U.S. stock prices higher, while yields on U.S. government debt rose. An interest rate cut from the European Central Bank also lifted investor sentiment.

Economists expect Friday's jobs report will show employers hired 145,000 people last month, an improvement from March's dismal pace of 88,000 but not enough to bring down the still-elevated jobless rate, which is seen steady at 7.6 percent.

Another reason to cheer for President Obama!!

Right Power!

Oh, whoops, we do not think the spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, and the Daily Caller (the spokespaper for the RNC), meant to confirm that Harry Reid was right about Mitt Romney paying a big gorgeous goose egg in taxes for 10 years. But they accidentally did! Oh our tangled webs and cetera!

In a big scoopy scooperson, if a bunch of conjecture could be a scoop, but sure why not, the Daily Caller asks if Harry Reid was fed Mitt Romney’s tax returns by all the dastardly liebruls at the IRS. You remember — Reid came out on the floor of the Senate and had a gay old time crowing about how he had a source, and the source told him Romney paid nada. And everybody was like YOU LIE, but it is weird that the Romney campaign didn’t falsify this completely falsifiable assertion by, you know, releasing the tax returns.(No, they didn’t. They released one year and part of another.) And now??? Well, when it is time to throw the IRS to the teabaggers, then it is time to throw Mitt Romney there, too! Take it away, Daily Caller!

Since the new IRS scandal broke, Republicans have found the question of who Reid got his information from — and from where — intriguing.

“We all wondered how Harry Reid had Mitt Romney’s taxes,” Republican National Committee spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski told The Daily Caller.“The question is, will he call for a full investigation into the IRS?”

Did you get that? Here let us repeat it.

“We all wondered how Harry Reid had Mitt Romney’s taxes,” Republican National Committee spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski told The Daily Caller.“The question is, will he call for a full investigation into the IRS?”

Fail.

Quiz questions, bonehead:

What 2 houses constitute Congress?

Which Party presently controls the US Senate?

Since what year has that Party remained in continuous control of the US Senate?

What incompetent, corrupt blowhard presently controls the US Senate as Senate Majority Leader, and what is his Party affiliation?

How many Budgets has the Senate and its incompetent Leader passed during its years of total Party domination?

What Party had absolute control of both houses of Congress and the White House for the 1st 2 years of the Obama Administration?

Instead of aggressively focusing on turning the PRIVATE economy around towards strong recovery and resumed growth with that total control, what job-killing lib prog wet dream agenda did they squander 2 years pursuing instead, that has sunk the economy into the worst recovery from recession in US history since the Great Depression?(Hint - it's spelled "ObamaScare")

Case closed.
