"THINGS FOR JOE TORRE TO DO WHILE WAITING TO NOT BE REHIRED"

Whoever attempted that vulgar at Newsday ought to be shit canned. That was about the unfunniest crap I've ever read.

What happened to all the good reporters and sportwriters? That add on was definitely bush-league.

Well look at the pitching statistics from 1996-2000...a sh1t load better than this year
No arguement there. But this is where MANAGING comes in: making due with what you have. And what he had isn't ALL bad you know. Answer this (and this is not a 2nd guess): How does he not start Pettitte in Game 1??? I knew then they were done.
We won't even get into the lack of stolen bases or hit and runs vs. an awful Indian's defensive catcher.

I agree...your can't expect to win a series where your ace blows 2 games in a row...thats not Torre's fault. They scored enough runs to win every game, it was just a pitching break-down that cost the yanks.
No it was his fault for having Wang pitch 2 games in the first place- esp. after he tanked in game one and for starting a geriatric off the DL when Mussina clearly should have been the starter. AND its his fault for not pinch hitting and shaking it up.

You're absolutely correct, however, who was their leader then -- "Joe Torre" exactly!!!
Their leader was the same man who has presided over a 4-13 record in his last 17 post season games.

Let me guess: when the Yankees win 4 world series, its because Joe Torre is a managerial genius, but when they get dropped in the 1st round 3 YEARS IN A ROW, somehow its entirely the players fault and not St. Joe's. Give me a break!
oh my God I think I love you. You are the first person to see that and say it out loud. THANK YOU.
He's only responsible for the wins and not the losses? People are sheep and only look at what they want to 'prove' their points. THANK YOU> You made my day.

That's a good question. I heard on the radio after the game that Torre was "overruled" by the top brass. He wanted to start Mussina in Game 4 and was told he was to pitch Wang....anyone else here this?
well if it is true (and I doubt it is), you have to be a spineless whimp to be made to do that, if you are in fact, you know, THE MANAGER.

Allow me to remind you all of something. When Torre first came - everyone was crying. He NEVER had a winning record and no one could figure out why they got him. Then armed with Brosius-Oneill-Jeter-Posada- Williams...... he won a few series. And everyone thinks its because of him!!?
Let me tell you- Torre did not make the Yankees awinner.
The Yankees made Torre a winner.

The fact is when the team needed strategy and needed management- he had nothing.

What other pitchers were out there that he missed on, exactly? Clemens, sadly, was the best available and they got him. At some point you have to live with it until these young guys mature in a year or 2.
First of all your posts are hillarious!...what I was saying before was about all the lemons Cashman has brought in from 2002-2006. I agree with what you said about Clemens. Again this year the flaw was the bullpen. Everyone went nuts when Joba came up, bullpen issues resolved! But it still didn't address who you were going to bring in during the 4th-7th innings to shhut the other team down. How many more wins would we have had this year if the bullpen could have held the other team where they were? Game 4 -1st & 3rd, two outs, Mussina gives up the single that allows 2 more runs...what if he holds them at 4 runs? A-Rods HR means something then.

Joe Torre is one of the greatest managers in baseball history. He has won 4 world series only stengel and mccarthy with 7 and mack with 5 have won more. To let him go would be foolish. We need Joe Torre!!!

Yes he is (was). So was McCarthy and Stengel. And what happened to them? THEY WERE FIRED BY THE YANKEES FOR LOSING A WORLD SERIES. This is the Yankee way, always has been. As a Yankee fan you should know this. Bye bye Joe.

as someone allready wrote, torre did not make the yankee players into winners. the yankee players made torre a winner. most other major league managers could have won, all those past twelve years, with the players torre had. and can we only imagine roger clemens these days, laughing out loud at how he duped the yankee organization out of all that money. he alone, was the only winner on that ballclub this past year. way to go roger!

Pettitte should have started game 1. Getting in that hole right off the bat caused Torre to panic and inexplicably start Wang (who always has trouble in big games - no new mystery here) twice in 4 games! Yes the bullpen has HUGE holes. But the plan in the playoffs was: Starter-Joba-Mo. It worked fine in Game 2 (when Mr. Pettitte started), but the offense, led by choker A-Rod, couldn't scratch out 2 runs. So by game 3 and 4 your pitching is in disaray, all leader back to Andy not starting game 1. Hope the young guys are able to fill the gaps next year (under Mr. Girardi) after a full spring training, and this year's experience.

The Steinbrenner family will use the player support against Joe and say they could not win for him - time for a change. Too bad... Bobby Cox is lucky he is with Atlanta rather than still in the Yankee system.

...it's the curse of Zimmer: Since he got p-o'd and quit after 2003 they haven't won a thing. Jeter rubbing his bald head before each game seems to have been the key to "Yankee mystique & aura appearing nightly."
