Another sad story of an accident on SSP. I drive daily on Southern State and it's amazing that there aren't more. Everybody in a hurry to get nowheres fast. Over-sized pick-ups (with their fav nascar # in the window) going like bats out of hell! Where are the State Police?

There are less then 100 NYSP troopers assigned to LI, yet there are 5,000 troopers in total statewide.

The NY State Police needs to stop stealing jobs from the county sheriff's and stick to the parkways, NYS thruway, etc.

I was a friend of the person that died in this car accident, he was known by carlos he died due to the impact! even if he would have lived he would have been paralized for life. the accident made him loose his legs. There was a girl with him and a boy, the girl also died she also died due to the impact. the boy is also my friend he is now in a coma in naussau hospital. He has brain leakage coming out thru the ears. The police suck they took hours to take out both carlos' and the girls body out. The accident happened at 2:30am and they didnt take them out until around 7:00am. the family is heartbroken and carlos' mother is devastated she is in El Salvador. They will send her his body tommorrow.

Vanessa, there are often grim but real reasons for the delay in removing bodies from a fatal crash. They involvem among other things, the love of Americans for sueing people and companies. As the dec'd was from El Salvador, I would prepare yourself for a bunch of comments about that fact.

My San Francisco left leaning liberal heart doesnt bleed for any of them. The schmuck thinks doing 95-100 mph is okay on the SSP. Heading home drunk so he can line up for work in Farmingville. I'm so glad illegals have more rights in this country to free everything than do citizens.

By the way, who is paying for the hospitalization.
Naturally, the taxpayer of course.

I'm not one to argue with people online, but I just have to say something about someone's very stupid and insensitive comment. It's amazing how ignorant people can be. I love how people make assumptions based on nothing. People like you are schmucks, Vince.

There were many officers there. I saw at least six police cars, the fire department, and other officials involved. It was a devastating scene. I even told my friend that it would be very difficult for them to take people out of that wreckage. It didn't even resemble a car. I'm very sorry for your loss Vanesa.

Anyone who knows the family members or could help Newsday's report should contact the newspaper. I'm sure they are working hard to gather more information, which they have, but need to speak with anyone who knows the people who lost their lives. Go to the paper's Web site for a number to the news desk.

The whole island is full of crazy driving. It's the fact pace of life here ... people forget the consequences.

I hope the departed rest in peace and that the living recover.

Many officers rushed to the scene. Its such a pity that some donuts went stale.

Dunkin Donuts has to feed the homeless now - food that should have gone to the police in the first place.

How did a story about a car accident turn into a chat room for hatemongers? As for you Tony - you say you moved away from Long Island because you hated it so much - yet you are still reading Newsday online. It's hard to let go, isn't it????

I would like to thank everyone for their comments, especially for their condolences. And for those who posted those very racist and hateful comments the family thanks you too. I also would like to thank the police and the fire department for their efforts. The driver was my boyfriends uncle and he was a nice person that like to laugh and life life. He will tryly be missed.
