I know the media will be all over the Mets if they don't extend Dickey. However, what do they give him? 3 years would be a huge mistake. If they can get some really good outfielders, and I mean major league ready, I'd trade him. Also, do you think the Mets can draft a catcher out of college who might be a year or two away from the majors? I mean the catching prospects right now are more depressing than the outfield.
Didn't the Mets draft a catcher named Plawecki out of college last season? He finished the year with the Brooklyn Cyclones, I believe. I'd like to know how his season compared with that of his teammate, Brandon Nimmo. Does anyone out there have the stats on these two prospects?

Funny how a guy who was almost non-tendered last year by the Mets has become a coveted free agent this winter. And it isn't as if he had an off-the-wall super season in 2012; he had what might be called a typical season for him, but with a WS champ, so his value soars. Whether he plays in 2013 for the Giants, the Phillies, or for someone else, I hope that Angel Pagan has a great year and makes a lot of money.

As Forrest Gump might say about the Mets' front office, stupid is as stupid does.

So Ken Davidoff thinks R. A. Dickey is a self-promoter and not very popular with his Mets teammates. Gee, what a surprise. I guess Davidoff--and maybe a few Mets--would prefer that the knuckleballer just bend over and let management ream him. For the first time in his 38 years of life R.A. has some leverage to wield, and he's doing it. I don't blame him one bit. If the Mets brass is unhappy with the things Dickey has been saying to the press, well waah, waah, waah!

Actually, Dickey is the best weapon the Amazin's have had in years when it comes to the negotiating a trade for multiple quality prospects. Carlos Beltran garnered only a single prospect, albeit a high-quality one. If Sandy can obtain C Travis D'Arnaud and a MLB-ready OF (Goss) for Dickey, he should take the deal.

Calm down Eddie, Davidoff is a closet Met hater that loves stirring the pot it's the only way he'll get people to read his rubbish. RA is respected throughout the Mets organization, players and management alike, if you read his full quotes and not the the reports out of context you'll know the feelings mutual, RA wants nothing more then to remain a Met. That being said he also knows it's a buisness and his value to the Mets is being traded for the future, Sandy, who's working on a deal as I type, will get exactly who he wants for who he wants to trade or RA will happily remain a Met and be rewarded.

This is a stretch; but I believe MC thinks the Mets and Giants made the Beltran-Wheeler trade in the summer of 2011, with the addendum that in the winter of 2012 the Mets would then send Pagan to the Giants to make up for the fact that Beltran wasn't going to sign a new contract with the Giants. So using that logic, the Pagan deal wasn't for Torres it was to complete the Beltran/Wheeler deal.
I know I shouldn't even be responding to that post but I just wonder if that was what he was saying.

Kudos to Sandy Alderson for pulling off the big trade with the Blue Jays. R.A. Dickey is finally getting the kind of money he richly deserves and the Mets get prospects that have a very good chance of being Mets stars of the future. Actually, the trade makes a lot of sense for both teams. Toronto gets a quality starter and a catcher who is used to dealing with Dickey's tricky stuff. The Mets get two catchers--one for the present, one for the future--and a young SP who may turn out to be the equal of Harvey and Wheeler. Now we need to ascertain what the hell his last name is. Is it Snydergaard or Syndergaard?

Now Sandy can concentrate on acquiring a RH outfielder with some power.

I'll have no trouble rooting for the Blue Jays next summer. They appear to be
loaded with talent and will feature both Dickey and Jose Reyes on their roster.

I agree with you Eddie. This trade had to be made. I asked you about a month ago what the catching situation was. Alderson knew that they needed a big upgrade. He just got it. Listen, I know all the fans fell in love with Dickey, but honestly he was a journeyman. He is 38 and there are no guarantees that he could replicate last year. Dickey was a feel good story, but they aren't going to win a pennant with him on the mound. They needed an everyday catcher with power. By 2014 he should be ready.

Yeah, this was a trade that benefited both teams, the Jays immediately, the Mets eventually. Now all I have to do is live a few more years to see another contending Mets team. The race is on. I hope I win.

A few more years? That's not bad. I'm down to one day at a time.
