Remind me never to visit Jamaica, a country obviously devoid of any compassion for their fellow man, regardless of sexuality. It is disgusting to read of such callousness that pervades Jamaican society!

I won't need to be reminded to never visit Jamaica. My (gay) teenage son and I used to visit the two Jamaican restaurants in town frequently. We loved the food. I was even upset when Publix quit carrying those Jamaican meat pies that we loved. Then I read a previous Topix thread, "To be gay in Jamaica is to be dead" and started doing a little research on homophobia there. Yes, most of the time homophobic beatings and killings are condoned or even conducted by the police there.

Well, it may be a beautiful place but, I have no intention of ever going there or of ever eating in a Jamaican restaurant again!

In the U.S., our heroes are people like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. In Jamaica it's the dope smoking Rastafarian, Bob Marley! Go figure.

I went to St Thomas once which is a U.S. territory. What's really weird there is that while the steering wheels on vehicles are on the left, as in the mainland U.S., they drive on the left hand side of the road ! Confusing !

Jamaicans believe that being gay is not a natural thing, so if you know Jamaicans they love to deal with everything natural.... That is the way the life is set... Everything must be straight nothing lean.... God made Adam and Eve, God never made Adam to lay down with Steve..... That is what real Jamaicans believe in....

Daniel P from long Island not all Jamaicans are murders, or bad people. There are millions of kind, caring, loving and brilliant people out there, just like every where in the world. You have good and bad. Jamaica is no different. The Island size to the population is what everyone looks at to why Jamaica has such a high murder rate...Jamaica is no different to the USA, anywhere in South America(i.e Mexico,Peru,Brazil etc)Africa(pick any country you want there...)even places like Australia or Thailand, all it is, is that pound for pound or shall we say square inch for square inch Jamaica is much smaller by far, so everything looks alot worse than it really is, and along with the bad rep Jamaicans carry that has not help the situation.....

Jamaica has a VERY high murder rate compared to all other countries. It's per capita murder rate is #3 in the world behind only South Africa and Colombia. The U.S. rate places us at # 24.

Mexico, Poland, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania & Estonia all have homicide rates HIGHER than the U.S.

Any gay white person who visits Jamaica is crazy.

Have you turned on a tv lately? The heroes now are likes of Paris Hilton and Speidi.
