Bay Shore man nabbed in cockfighting sting

Suffolk Police arrested a Bay Shore man in connection with an animal fighting operation being run from a Central Islip home.

Cockfighting has been going on for many years in Bay Shore and Central Islip. I've been to a few and while they are brutal, they are part of the local ethnic heritage.

Contrary to the animals that were confiscated in this case, most owners take great care of their animals and there is an underground veterniary group that caters to caring for them.

Some roosters die in their first battle, others can go on for months and be in good health. It appears that this person was not of Spanish origin, which is extremely rare in cockfighting circles.

The fight locations are kept secret and if you get to see a fight, it means that someone has trusted you enough to let you in on it.
