we need to see more HS players on the beach playing VB. There is a reason Long Beach is good every year.

Only one write-up in Newsday re: the v-ball games played yesterday. That's a disgrace.
The 2 articles on Newsday.com , both well-written and well-appreciated by the v-ball community, never appeared in the paper. Give V-ball some props and at least publish the A/B players to watch and the top 10. Bowling finally got some respect from Newsday this year -- How about Volleyball ?
What are your thoughts?

VB in the news complains about how boys VB is not given enough respect by Newsday. I will give you the reason why, its b/c half of the island plays in the fall and the other in the spring. Their is no reason for them to cover something that only half the island would be interested in. There is no All-LI teams like the girls have and no LI player of the year.

Come on over to the fall where the grass is greener.

I do know about NCAA schedules since my son plays. But that is NCAA and not HS boys VB in NY. Out of the 11 sections in NY, 5 play in the fall and 1, Nassau, plays in the spring. The other sections do not even play boys volleyball and I think one other plays in the winter.

Going back to Newsday. I do know Gary and he just started this year covering boys VB and Nassaus coverage is going to surpass Suffolks.

Suffolk should play in the spring with parochial schools city schools AND THE REST OF THE FRIGGING COUNTRY (not in the fall with a couple of backward sections in the state of New York)

Bethpage just went 6 and out at the St Anthonys tournament, and remain undefeated in their season, so right now they are the team to beat in Nassau

The rest of the country is split between playing in the fall and spring. Some states play in the fall and others in the spring.

As for the backward sections in NY playing in the fall. These sections have produced more Division I and III volleyball players than Nassau can dream of.

Play with city schools? You guys do not even play best out of 5. Get with the program.

No matter when it's played, volleyball is one of the most exciting sports of the season. Let's get back to what it's all about: this season's players/teams. Some great hitters to watch: Kim, Segal, Tarantino, Hamlet, Klek and Park, to name a few. A few have recorded 15+ kill matches.
Just enjoy the season, whenever it is.

BRAVO - IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT VOLLEYBALL AND OTHER SPORTS OTHER THAN LAX GET SOME PAPER TIME. IT IS A DISGRACE TO OTHER ATHLETES WHO PLAY JUST AS HARD AND PUT IN JUST AS MUCH TIME AS OTHERS. HIGHLIGHT OTHER SPORTS... ITS NOT ALL ABOUT LAX.

If I were any of these kids parents (Kim, Segal, Tarantino, Hamlet, Klek, Park, etc) I would be thinking about a lawsuit to get the season changed to the fall. There is precedent since Suffolk County girls moved to the fall b/c of lawsuit claiming loss of scholarship, competition and future earnings. Recently the Michigan Athletic Association had to redo their whole sports schedule because of the same reason.

I know for a fact at the regional state championship (the 4 upstate sections play in this)that there are numerous college scouts in attendance watching these boys.

As for the boys I see Hamlet making the biggest impact because he has spent time playing club volleyball. Now it is up to his coach to keep him improving and using him correctly.

Then how come my son and I watched NCAA this past winter and fall? I agree that there is not enough coverage since suffolk was complete in the fall. Greg Sarra told me maybe next year? For those who who don't feel it counts try taking a kill shot at 100mph. Both my sons play and love it.

No excuse. Golf is covered and that's a split season. Try again.

College VB is not really played in the spring as you say. It starts in January and ends around April unless you make the playoffs. So they end when you start. What was said before is you can not compare HS athletic seasons with college, it some cases it does not matchup.

Problem is there are so many needs for the gym time for sports boys/girls it is dufficult to schedule. We would love boys states. East has been very successful last two years reaching county finals in both. In a rebuilding phase now with their whole starting lineup graduating. Good group though taking the reins.

How come Volleyball gets no photos. It's unfair to all the volleyball players that even "GIRL'S LACROSSE" gets pictures.
