I guess the good news is a pure shooter is not the hardest thing to find. Most of them are bench players, specializing in the 3 pointer. They make the inside game deadly. Curry, Lee and Balkman dominate the inside without this threat. With a deadly 3 point kickout option, the defense would pay when they collapse and Lee and Balkman would have more open areas for offensive rebounding. Outside of hit your foul shots, I think this is the biggest immediate improvement this team can make for next year.<quoted text>At so early a stage in their careers, one can only hope that Lee and Balkman, as well as the coaches attatch a sense of urgency to their need to develop their outside shooting. And I've been saying all along that I'd like to see Isiah pick up at least one shooter this off season. And with QRich's condition so tenuous and uncertain, maybe even 2. Lack of outside shooting is killing us right now. And the 1 misgiving I have about Crawford being injured and missing the so called palyoff run, is the fact that had he been healthy and playing now, I feel he would have been exposed as not being the go to guy that Isiah seems to think he is. And maybe then, Isiah would have seen the need to go in a different direction than putting the ball in Crawford's hands, during crunch time. And with some of the circus shots I've seen Kobe make, even he couldn't make some of the wild shots that I've seen "Air Crawford" throw up.
We're not as far away from a real competitive team as people think. There were at least 15 games that a little better foul shooting and a more consistent outside shot would have won. Take half of those and we are 38-33 versus 31-40. The difference is correctable by next year.
