Underachieving Mets aren 't boasting anymore

Full story: Newsday 199
And by the time the 2007 Mets completed the most ignominious regular-season collapse in the history of sports, it had become an .embarrassment. So this year, wisely, the Mets' marketing department has put a ... Full Story

LOL. Pity when a Yankee fan knows more about Mutts occurences than you do. Check your facts son. Piazza heard a fair share of boo birds in 1998.

Does Wallace Matthews know anything about the Met's? This article call's Beltran old and does not mention Maine or Perez? I have read a few of Wallace Matthew pieces (not really worth calling them articles) and he always seem to rip the Met's with little fact behind the piece, My guess is he may be a Yankee fan who can't get over the fact Omar builds winning teams.

Not nice., Can't you recognize when someone is just agitating? That is his style. Wishing someone dead is inexcusable. And besides, the Mets offense is a house of cards. they have proved it two years running.

It is worse, but everyone jumps on the 7 games up with 17 to go (7 is more than 6 so it must be worse), even though it took the Mets 7 more games than the Phils to blow a 6 game lead.
actually it was 6 1/2 with 12 to go, they then lost 10 straight. But of coarse the most recent choke is always "the worst" that people remember. After this season it will take it's proper perspective as the "2nd worst" regular season collapse behind the 64 Phils.

And like I said your point of generalizing is pointless...fans are fans... good and bad..

yes all fans boo and all fans complain. my point is i've never seen a group of fans bemoan every article that's critical of their team like met fans do here. it never fails.

YOU CAN'T!
You will never know what it is like to root for a dynasty. Yankees do not have to win every year. I like the youth movement. Kind of levels the playing foeld and give others a chance. But, the Mets will need more help than that. Johan is washed up, and the yankees knew it.
washed up? are you 12 years old? or are you HIGH? Your OWNER is going to FIRE CASHMAN after the season when Johan wins 24 at Shea this year....

Typical Yankee fan arrogance with no substance.

Nobody lloves the Mets? Is that why the Mets broke 3 million a year in attendance 20 years before the Yankees in the Midst of the Yankees '70s dynasty?

New York was is and always will be a National Leage Town. NY'ers love baseball. Only a few appreciate the Major League Softball played in the Bronx.

Mike Piazza was NEVER booed at Shea Stadium.

EVER.

They gave him a standing O the first day he played (I know I was there) and NEVER stopped loving him after that. I know that also because I couldn't stand him. He was another choke artist like A-Rod but my fellow Mets fans always overlooked it.

Piazza was the king of the 3 run homer when the Mets were up by 4.

You are incorrect. Why would he have heard boos in 98?

He hit 23 HR in 109 games from June to Sept. he drove in 76 runs in that time and hit .348

There were NEVER boo sat Shea for Mike Piazza, sir, you are MISTAKEN.

Yeah, I'm sure Beltran is just a step away from the ole retirement home. Mathews also conveniently ignores guys like Maine, Perez, and Church, none of whom have yet cracked 30.

This is a team with a nice mix of old and young, hardly a group where most of the guys are about set for pasture.

And really, how stupid is to base a column on a slogan? Man, no wonder Wally has to settle writing for Newsday.

Umm, Lost Rights: I was at a game in 1998 where Piazza was loudly booed. Mets fans turned on Piazza when he slumped in the summer of 1998, and didn't really start to worship him until after he started to carry the team down the stretch.
